Perfect sourdough loaf
I am totally taken with both the white kitchen craft bread cloche and the Lodgr Dutch oven. They are just perfect for the second rising before putting them straight into the oven.

Returned
I did receive this item but was disappointed to find that I needed to condition it for an hour at full heat, for, this I felt should have been done by the seller, especially at today's energy costs. But, my main reason for returning it was the size, I had just bought a small oven, for bread making & this cloche was too big.Whilst the oven is 52cm on the outside the oven is only 39cm & the cloche could only fit diagonally, plus with its handle filled the upper space too.I have since bought a smaller one which does not need conditioning & allows enough space for another dish or baked potatoes to cook at the same time as the bread...making it altogether more energy efficient. It is a nice looking cloche, though did feel rather fragile.I'd like to thank Amazon for being so helpful, their customer service is second to none.

Not useful for bread
This is unglazed clay and the bread stuck very badly even with baking parchment. I had to throw it away after using 2 or 3 times

Good oven spring
I've baked a few loaves using the cloche and have now got a fairly decent result with my sourdough. The photo shows two loaves baked one after the other. I heated the cloche from cold in the oven at 240 fan, then put the dough in straight from the fridge. I baked it for 25 mins then removed the lid, turned the temp down to 220 for 15 mins, then 200 for 10 mins.Pros: good oven spring, well baked with good colour.Cons: awkward to handle and I haven't yet mastered the art of transferring the dough from the banneton into the cloche without it landing on its side.Overall, not bad at all.

Great for baking!
Bought it for making rye sourdough bread. I have a stone and benign baking this bread for a while but my family asked to make ‘a better shaped’ bread :).It makes bread moist and even inside and crusty out side. You need to remember to put it in the oven on very hot half an hour before putting dough in it. And take off the lead at the end and bake bread for another 10-15 minuets for crusty top. My bread comes out easy and no need to scrub inside. For this price it’s a perfect buy!

You get what you pay for
I was looking for a cheap alternative to a loaf nest, this wasn't it. It's marketed as ceramic, it's just unglazed clay and the texture is AWFUL. The quality seems really flimsy overall.Sent it straight back as the sound of the lid being put on sounded like nails on a chalkboard. The size would be OK if it was slightly shorter and wider. Can imagine it would be pain to clean!

Raw clay pottery not resistant to getting wet.
An elegant and delicate vessel, not suitable for everyday use. The description says that the material is stone. In fact, it is raw clay pottery that is not resistant to getting wet. The instructions are in French, with only a small fragment in English with a small print barely readable. It's sad that I have to send it back because it's so hard to find proper quality loaf tins.

Dust DOUGH with Course Semolina first!
This Kitchen Craft bread cloche bakes risen, moist bread with a crispy crust. No more need to put a bowl of water in your oven to bake perfect sourdough loaves.Just make sure you dust the surface of the DOUGH with Coarse Semolina (NOT flour!) BEFORE you put it in the cloche for the second proof. Then when the time’s up, put the whole thing in the oven.Don’t worry that the cloche is cold! Just bake for a few minutes longer if necessary. You can lift up the lid and check on it half way through without the bread collapsing.Warning! Because the cloche is unglazed (so that it remains porous for a crispy crust) any dough on your hands will stick to the cloche - and you can’t wash it off! It will burn into a little brown stain, which you can leave to form a baking patina or rub off with sandpaper. (If this upsets you, you can buy a characterless glazed version for 3x the price, but I love the patina as it’s like a memory of the all loaves I have baked). And it doesn’t need washing up - ever!*If you are a beginner I would recommend buying the round version first, but the baguette shape is easier to cut and freeze.
