In His Own Words: The Essential Speeches of Adolf Hitler

valuable!
An excellent anthology of the great dictator's spoken words, which as anyone who has read about the period knows was always the thing that most got people under his sway. It covers the whole of his active time with the NSDAP. Interesting to read and of course it is always vital that we DO have these words to read and examine, rather than just believing what other people have said (and written) about them. My only grumble is I wish it was longer! Perhaps a volume 2 could be compiled by Antelope Hill....?

Brilliant book
The translations are top quality. Each selected speech has a well written and easy to follow "background" presented before it, giving context to the words. And as for the words... well, aren't you curious to know what the man himself actually said? He is arguably the most recognisable European of all time and his words should be available for each man to judge for himself.

Excellent Commentary & Texts
This is a splendid book that provides a selection of key speeches that span Hitler's career. The commentary and introduction to each speech is excellent, and written in a very compelling way. I sincerely hope that C. J. Miller will consider writing a comprehensive history of Hitler - that would be a terrific read!

A Brief Taste Of An Infamous Demogogue
As usual, this book was delivered on time and was well packaged. However although the book was undamaged, it is cheaply bound and I feel that it will degrade sooner rather than later. In terms of it's content, I would advise everyone to read the introduction carefully as the publisher makes it clear that they don't endorse Hitler's views or actions, and that this book is purely for historical reference. Also, the commentary before each speech is invaluable as it provides context, and a point of reference. My reason for only giving three stars is because the book isn't comprehensive enough.Although covering all of Hitler's speeches would have been impractical because of the sheer length of the book that would entail, there was certainly room to include at least a couple of extra speeches. Also, the majority of the speeches printed were pre WW2, and thus we are denied Hitler's justifications to the German people for some of his later cataclysmic decisions.A perfect example of a missing speech of major importance was Hitler's announcement of his decision to launch the invasion of Russia. More than any other, this choice resulted in the deaths of millions of Russians and the defeat of Germany. Therefore his justification for doing this was of vital historical importance. In conclusion, although I can't fault the way these speeches were introduced and translated, my main criticism is that two or three vital ones were missing, and this was both unnecessary and avoidable.
