ScanpanCTX 7.5 Quart Covered Dutch Oven, Stainless Steel

I make a batch of organic steel cut oats with half gallon organic milk, hemp seeds, flax seeds and oodles of cinnamon once a week and got tired of scouring the bottom of my regular pans from scalded milk and oats. I chose this Scanpan Dutch Oven because of the quality as well as the performance. I have other Scanpan pieces and they are perfect. This is heavy weight, brushed stainless steel. The nonstick interior is free from the toxic chemicals that many other pans have. In fact, titanium is one component of the nonstick surface which is also slightly textured. Instructions say that metal utensils are safe to use, however, I prefer to use wooden utensils just to preserve the interior as long as possible. Others have complained about the handles being too small and getting hot. You just need to be mindful of this and use thick potholders when moving it or removing the lid. Cooking performance is great. Using medium heat - as recommended - it heats up quickly and provides solid heat throughout the entire pan, not just in spots. The pan is also suitable for induction cooktops if you should have one. This is the perfect size for my weekly batch of oats. It cleans up easily - no scouring required! This piece is expensive, but considering Scanpan quality, it it well worth it and will last many, many years.

This cookware is exemplary. Only moderate heat is required to use these pans as they conduct heat more efficiently than any other pan I've used. Heating on medium-high will bring water to a boil more quickly than other pans used on high heat!The non-stick surface truly is non-stick! It cleans up with a quick wash with a soapy sponge. And the stainless steel exterior stays pristine with a quick wipe and occasional light scrub with Bar Keeper's Friend stainless steel cleaner.

I've tried one scanpan and now have 6 pieces. Simply THE BEST! Cooks very well, easy to use, and cleans well. The best nonstick coating I've ever tried. It browns and sears as well as nonstick. I highly recommend.

Sep 2015 update:The non-stick feature does not last very long. After a year's worth of use, it was hopeless and very difficult to clean since you have to clean with non-abrasive scrubs. I have tried different cleaners, baking soda, vinegar etc.I feel that for the price that I paid for this pot, it was very poor value. I feel it is better to buy an inexpensive non-stick pot and just replace it when the non-stick feature gives out; your money will go a long way this way.The pot itself is very sturdy but what is the use if it can last 6 months to a year? The non-stick feature is important to me as I minimize oil in my cooking.========================Previous title: Great pot, but transparent lid does not serve its purpose.Previous rating: 4*Reflection: It is better for users to give ratings after using such products for 6 months to a year. Otherwise, the excitement of the new product will inflate the rating and misguide other users.I have been enjoying cooking with this. I like the product's look and feel. My old steel pot used to cause food to burn in one spot due to uneven heating. This new one is not posing that problem. I am very happy with it overall.I am holding back one star because the design leads one to believe that the clear transparent lid would allow one to look at the food inside while cooking. But the reality is that the moisture in your food condenses on to the lid and there is nothing you can see. Given that this transparent lid is ineffective, and noting that the manufacturing of the lid would be more complex on account of having to seal the transparent part to the metal and multiple parts to manufacture, I feel that the designers of Scanpan should stop manufacturing the transparent lid and make a robust metal lid that will make the product more sturdy overall. If the lid falls down by accident, I would have more confidence in a full metal lid with minimal number of parts.

5 Stars for Amazon customer services, 2 stars for the lid, and 4 stars for the pot itself. Here is why.I have exchanged this pot 3 times, each time there were heavy scratches all over the lid even they were all brand new.I exchanged again and again, and finally got tired of it, so I contacted amazon customer service hoping they can could do something about the rest of the pots in their warehouse. Sure they did, they filed the report, and had someone helped me check the lid before shipping it out to me. The last one I received still has some minor scratch on the lid, but it was a lot better than the first few. The pot itself however is excellent, it's easy to clean, non-stick, dishwasher safe, holds temperature well, I couldn't be happier.

A friend had these pans and I loved the way they cooked and the clean up was simply amazing. They are beautiful as well. After having bought so many other "popular" expensive brands and not having them hold up after just a few years and needing to replace them I figured lets give a few of these Scanpans a try. They really aren't that much more then what I paid for some of my other brands open stock options pots or pans. I bought this 7.5 quart dutch oven CTX and the big covered chef's pan. I've used them many times now and can say I love cooking in them. They are well designed, heat evenly and are a joy to clean up. I think these will be the last pots and pans I buy for a few decades. I will add to my collection. I will say I did have trouble finding the CTX in stores. Most stores had different styles that weren't as pleasing to me so I had to order these. But I definitely can recommend these.

I purchased 4 CTX Scanpans and love them. They are of substantial weight, without being too heavy. It says they can be put in the dishwasher, but I hand wash them. They wash up beautifully, and want them to last a lifetime! Like the see thru lids too! I am a grandmother and have had numerous pots and pans in my lifetime, these by far are the best!

Love the size I'd the Dutch oven, but the lid had scratches on it.
