The Hobbit: Pocket Edition

My son loves this book! Great story line and easy read. He loves that it's pocket size; not literally, but a great size to take on the go though!

Great copy with the exception of the text being formatted very small. Fits for what it is though.

Pros:-Perfect size for carrying, but even with my older/bad eyes I can read this-Hardback version with dustcover-Price, wow this was crazy good price (not sale, just regular price)-Story (not revieing this, this is a classic and more than well known) was awesome!-No issues with printing/pagesCons:-Amazon shipping, just thrown in a box with everything else with nothing to protect it from scratches/dings/crushing... Received with minor damage (is it sad I feel lucky when this happens) so keeping

There's no need to review this book. If you think you might like it, you will. It's likely that you will read it more than once in your life.As for the Pocket Edition, the print is very small and I would order a larger edition if I did it all over again. If you can't read books with smaller than normal font then don't buy this edition. The reason I bought this one is that I know my old, misplaced hard back edition will show up sooner or later, and I just wanted a cheap edition to begin reading to my 7 and 5 years old. But, they wanted to watch the movie and I insisted that we read it first. Don't let your kids watch the movies until they read the books!The 7 y/o loved it and the 4 y/o liked it, but got a little bored during some of the slower parts or if we read it for too long at one sitting.

My first reading was a half century ago, a copy lent by a teacher who told me "I think you'll like this one. It isn't really a children's story." Well she wasn't quite right. The legend says that Tolkien did indeed write it for his children, then was convinced to publish it in the mid 1930s. For some reason adults like it.Perhaps it is the fact that the story is deceptively complex. Aided by a wizard Gandalf the dwarvish king Thorin Oakenshield seeks to drive a dragon out of his ancestral home. He and his companions hire a burglar, to help. The chosen burgler, Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit, a diminutive creature half the size of a human who knows a lot more about comfort, rest and good food than burgling. They set out on a journey, beset by trolls, goblins and bad weather, but aided by luck, elves, eagles and a shape shifter who can turn into a bear. Along the way Bilbo burgles, among other things, a magic ring which will turn him invisible.There is friendship, betrayal, excitement, battle, all the makings of a great story... there is even a real thief.This Amazon copy is about the tenth one I've bought. There seems to be an osmosis effect going on so that whenever I get a copy it ends up going home with one of my relatives or house guests. I have a sister who I suspect is related to Lobelia Sackville-Baggins (I know its hard to believe since she is so tall and wide), who's been banned from my house for nearly a decade. So I don't know who keeps borrowing copies.

Oh I'm so excited I got it today! I can't wait to read it. I love J.R.R.T. so much! ❤️ I have it on my kindle already, but there is something about holding your favorite book in your hand, and being able to turn the pages. It's not that small either, fits in my purse perfectly! Superb quality and craftsmanship. Love ❤️ it !!😉
