Installation was easy and I used the stock CPU fan/heat sink
I purchased this i5-7400 on sale here for $149.99usd which is $10usd off the non-sale price. This CPU DOES NOT come with a CPU Cooler. Installation was easy and I used the stock CPU fan/heat sink that came with my previous CPU. This was an upgrade from my Pentium G4400 CPU 2-core. The G4400 ran at 25-29 degrees Celsius. This i5-7400 runs at 42-56 degrees Celsius. That is until I went into BOOT Advance Options and changed the cores from 2 cores to 4 cores, now on the i5-7400 4-core I run 42-49 Degrees Celsius. That's a good temperature improvement. I further plan to install a little better aftermarket CPU Cooler fan/heat sink along with 3 120mm case fans. The replacement CPU Cooler fan/heat sink cost less than $15usd - I didn't go with the expensive ones. Those few changes should bring the temperature down several more degrees. The point I'm making is that the more cores you have - the hotter it will run. The i5-7400 4-core CPU multitask better than the G4400 2-core CPU. With graphics cards, RAM memory, and CPU's starting to drop in prices you may even get a better deal? But who knows??Overall the i5-7400 is a good priced CPU and if you don't want to spend even this high of a price, look into buying a Pentium G4560 here for $58.99usd. Check with your motherboard manufacture to see exactly what CPU your motherboard supports - that's important. Several months ago when I built my rig the G4560 was priced to high, but now it has come down to an affordable price. If you want to save money, the G4560 gives you a good performance boost and at a very good price. The G4560 is the darling of the price to performance ratio. Praise The Lord and Godspeed to you all!! It worked wonders
I installed this CPU. Went from the i3 to the i5. Big difference for my little computer... the HP pavilion 570-p064. I also installed another 8GB of RAM, for a total of 16GB with the new i5 7400 CPU. Smooth moving operation. I love my computer again.

Great Consistent Performance
This was a replacement for my 2015 i5 6600k (4 Cores, 4 Threads @3.5GHz) that died along with the motherboard and Radeon RX 580 GPU in a sudden death power incident. So I was a little worried I would not be happy putting this 4 Cores, 4 Threads @3.0GHz CPU on the identical replacement Z170-A motherboard I bought, but it performs well enough for my workstation needs. And I'm not experiencing any lags or glitches with tons of applications in use or when watching movies. The replacement GPU this 2017 Kaby Lake CPU supports is a very powerful Radeon Nitro+ RX 5500 XT, so I am very happy with this i5 7400 CPU and recommend it.

Used and it works
Works and its used! cant complain. only problem I had was with the packaging. The cpu was wrapped one time around in bubble wrap and then put in a fairly big envelope. just glad it doesn't have pins it would of been damaged for sure if it did.
