The best book for a new parent.
I gift this to every new parent. Itās the best way to be informed and equipped. Way better than Google and gives you knowledge and understanding for when you talk to the pediatrician. Highly recommend!!

BEST new mom gift
I give these as shower gifts as I depended on it so much. While slightly dated, the info is so much better than what is out there. Will save you many a trip to the ER and empower you to help your family stay healthy.

OUTSTANDING, BALANCED REFERENCE - A Mom Must-Have!
I have an extensive library of books, but if I were forced to give them all away but one, this is the one I would keep. This is my go-to book as a mom.Every malady is listed alphabetically. The malady is described, and below the description is a balanced, detailed overview of possible treatments for that particular malady:* Conventional Treatment* Dietary Guidelines* Nutritional Supplements* Herbal Treatment* Homeopathy* AcupressureThen, after the overview of treatments, a general recommendation is given, and if applicable, prevention tips for the future. This book is thorough, balanced, effective, and most importantly HELPFUL. With it, I am "Dr. Mom." Of course we see the dr. when needed, but the need is much less when I have information like this at my fingertips. When we do go to see the doctor, this book comes along, so I know what questions to ask. When I need to give a gift to a new mom, I give a copy of this book and a subscription to Mothering magazine. This book is a book EVERY parent needs to have handy on the shelf. There is NOTHING better out there. If there has ever been such a thing as a "Must-Have," this book qualifies. I also recommend Janet Zand's other book, "A Parent's Guide to Medical Emergencies : First Aid for Your Child."Update 1-6-2012I wanted to add that this makes a perfect baby shower gift. I gift it every chance I get -- it's wonderful. I still use it whenever one of my kids has an ailment. I can think of no better gift for a new parent.

Every parent-I mean EVERY PARENT should have this book
If you are someone who believes we should be taking charge of our medical care, and who is amenable to learning, please buy this book and buy it as a baby shower gift for any new parent. This is my fourth copy given as a gift and I'm about to order it again. The info is laid out encyclopedia style. Look up your ailment alphabetically, and the book provides you with allopathic, herbal, homeopathic and other natural remedies. Under each entry, in the sidebar there is a box titled "When to call the doctor" which has come in handy for us many times (like when my daughter took a header into a concrete floor and I was all "hey, she looks ok the book says it's cool-oh wait, no it says head injuries that result in lethargy should get checked out here in the sidebar."I can't praise this book enough. I also own the Smart Medicine for Healthier Living : Practical A-Z Reference to Natural and Conventional Treatments for Adults and A Parent's Guide to Medical Emergencies : First Aid for Your Child and have found these three books to be the most valuable tools in my parenting medical arsenal. With more and more Americans uninsured, taking charge of our own medical care has become a necessity. Empower yourself with this knowledge, because gone are the days of a quick phone consult with a doctor or nurse who knows you and your family.

Good Resource
I bought the first edition of this book when my older children (now 14 and 11) were small. Our family recently expanded with the arrival of twins, and decided to buy the updated edition for our new babies. As with the previous edition, the book covers "traditional", as well as "alternative" treatments for many, many childhood illnesses. There is also a large amount of supplementary information on nutrition, prenatal care, Bach's flower remedies, and more. Also, unlike some "natural" health books, the authors take care to offer a balanced look at a variety of treatments, and does not always "bash" conventional medicine. Even for those parents who are leery of alternative medicine/treatments, there is information in this book for all parents can use, even if it is just the nutritional information, or even the baby massage info. I love this book, and I plan to purchase more copies to give as baby shower gifts.

Got this for my wife and she loves it!
This book is for anyone who has kids including Grandparents! My wife had heard a lot of good things about this book so we finally dove in and made the purchase. Totally worth it! We were educated and corrected on a ton of stuff that we took for granted and were reassured on a few other things. We have 2 kids now and it's my wife's "go to" when we have any health questions or issues.

Best book on this topic!
This is a must-have book! So many books focus on only one modality - like homeopathy, oils, or herbs. This one tells you about ALL the options for each ailment/symptom, so you can choose the right one for your child. I love, love, love it. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. The only thing it doesn't really address is essential oils. But, I love the nutritional, homeopathic, and herbal suggestions. This is the second time I've bought this book because the first one was loaned out and never returned - I can't blame whomever that was! Seriously, if you only buy one book about children's health, buy this one. I have tons of books and this is by far the best.

A must have!
I am a Birth Assistant and Post Partum Doula for well over 20 years now. This is my go to gift for my families, otherwise known as clients, and family and friends who are having a baby. This amazing book along with some homeopathic remedies, for both mama and baby, cloth diapers, and tricks of my trade make for a lovely gift....or you can add a nice lavender massage oil, some gripe water, etc. But this book is an absolute must have!ššā®ļø. Very Informative! Very Impressive!
This book contains any common and uncommon childhood illnesses I can think of. It's a must for any new parent, like myself. You never know when your internet might not always be there to search a certain illness and its symptoms, which is why it's great to purchase a detailed book such as this to have as ready reference. It lists very practical conventional and natural remedies to every illness. It's a wonderful book - I was very impressed. I highly recommend it to anyone!
