Very impressed. Cook a lot and does great. Very well made and easy to clean. Heavy material. Better than expected.

More beast than beauty
The 12 inch American Metalcraft Carbon Steel skillet is a beast of a pan. Thick steel, large cooking area, and a long handle. At 5.8 pounds it weighs nearly as much as my 12 inch lodge cast iron.Don't imagine you are getting a polished French pan though. Mine came with a gray coating of what I would characterize as mill scale, i.e. residue from the steel mill. It also has a couple of cosmetic scratches in the bottom that didn't polish out. A good scouring with a green scotch brite pad removed the scale. Followed that with a scrubbing with steel wool followed by a good wash and I had a good looking pan ready to season. I have high hopes of this being a great and durable pan.Update: It took me a couple of tries to get the seasoning right on this pan, but it now cooks wonderfully. If you have prime the 11 inch version with free delivery is probably a better bet unless you want a really big and heavy pan.

surface is very rough
Virtually rough cooking surface. Certainly not in an intentional way. The Matfer Bourgeat I have isnt a polished surface either, but once seasoned, it passes fried egg past easily. This pan ( not American, but made in China), failed no matter how many times I reseasoned it. Not worth the money

Country of Origin?
I'm interested in investing in several of these pans, but not sure of country of origin. You'd think the name would be a dead giveaway, but if so they're hiding their MADE IN THE USA" pride for sure. Anyone know for sure where it's made?

Not really a 12” pan
The pan is described as a 12” pan. While the outside diameter may be 12”, the cooking surface is a mere 8.5” The high sloping sides are wasted space

Going to buy another!
Absolutely love! Arrived, scrubbed, then did a quick initial seasoning. Then pan fried a whole deboned chicken! If you can cook, buy it! If you can’t, buy it. Seriously great tool!
