This is the one you want for throwing!
The media could not be loaded. Holy crap these throw like a dream!! I don’t throw indoors as I think it’s way to close and not that challenging. I throw outside from 7.5 and 12 yards both with size axe. These will not break on you unless you really suck. They are plenty sharp hold a great edge as I throw into a old tree with a dirt stop. You could do whatever with this axe! Chop wood? sure very well! Throw at a target? Perfectly weighted and tested by me! I attribute the low throw to holding the camera in other hand. Enjoy

Craftsmanship and Quality!!!
Ok, I have been an avid buyer of Cold Steels hawks for a while now and I wasn't going to buy another, (collection is amassing u know!) but the Metal Gods spoke to me and I bought the Nobo! Upon opening the packaging I was greeted with an emerald green CRKT box that was very neatly and nicely packaged on the inside. Everything was where it should be with nothing sticking out of the box like sharp edges. First, I took out the pole which I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of and lacquer although there is a lot of it! The choice grain hickory that they use for their poles is superb and 200 times better than anything Cold Steel produces. Secondly I took the hefty steel axe head out of its plastic packaging, inspected it and there was absolutely nothing wrong aside from having to make it razor sharp myself. I can't speak enough of the quality of this hawk! The pole fits very snug and fits very nice out of the box, but it will need a little sanding to make it sit flush and true. There is a Lot of laquer on the handle though but it's better than wax!! I absolutely love it and encourage You to buy one if you're on the fence like I was. You'll never look back. End note; I purchased the leather Nobo sheath for it and it fits like a glove.!

One of the better production hawks. Don't hesitate to get one.
I got this hawk without a whole lot of expectations. I have a chogan (the one with the big hammer pole) and its a good hawk, just heavy and really for heavy chores. This is essentiall the same hawk but with a slightly thinner side wall and no hammer pole. Surprisingly, taking the pole of lightens it up more then I thought. It's still heavy but usable as a hawk.I'm going to compare it a little to the Cold Steel hawks since it's the same steel and close in HRC. I've "finished" many Cold Steel hawks and carried one for quite awhile. When I get one of those I know I have a lot of work to do. Most of the time they are not usable when you get them and rattling on the end of the sliver granting waxed handles. The grind is often off from one side to the other and the only redeeming quality is the steel seems tough and the heat treat good. Now this was still a bit rough but actually was usable as purchased. The grind was not EXACT but close enough that only OCD people like myself would notice. The head was obvously pressed on with a machine since there was some burring but it was not bad and was tight. It was sharp enough to actually chop. What I did....I still re-profiled the edge some, sanded all the lacquer (not sure on spelling on that) off, burnished the handle, added linseed oil, and made the sheath. I sharpened it up really well and after hacking on some hard dried wood for awhile, it would still take a little hair off my arm. I'm very impressed with this for an assembly line production hawk. The only little complaint I could make is that the edges around the handle are a little sharp. I beveled the inside on to p and bottom ot get the grain to slide down in instead of peeling up when I put the handle back on. This is a problem with lots of hawks though and farily easily remidied. This is probably about the best one of these mass producted ones I've gotten so far.

Great little backpacking hatchet/throwing hatchet.
* Worried the handle will break? Mine didn't and I put it through the wringer on a backpacking trip. Cut down dead and living 8" inch in diameter trees and made it earn its keep with the fire wood.* Afraid its too heavy? Its not. its actually surprisingly light in the hand.* Worried about the craftmanship of the handle, yeah do that. I mean its fine, but the oval of the handle is like, cut wrong at the edges. I don't really notice at all unless I look for it. But, who cares that's going to break over time and be replaced anyway.*Worried about the craftmanship of the head? Meh, its fine. Its uniform in shape but its like a B-. But, for the price this thing is a home run. the steel sharpens well enough too. You wont be shaving with it, but its plenty sharp for outdoorsy stuff.*Worried about the taper of the heads edge? You have the wrong product here. Its tapper is middle of the road. Its not supposed to be a throwing axe, or a cut down the redwood forest, either. Its about 20 degree angle.Worried that it might not be made in the usa? Its not. The handle is, so there's something.Got mine for $35 and I think its worth $50 but, if you're going higher you're in made in usa territory (this isnt) so just buy American and have better quality in Axe head so you can have just one hiking axe for ever since the steel will be higher quality, toughness, keep its edge longer, wear away less quickly while sharpening. all that.

Works well, decent ege
Although it required a little sharpening to be great, the factory edge was very serviceable. The haft fit to the head was good. Some small gaps, and a little wiggle - typical for a factory fit, but secure, and after a few strikes, marked up nicely for a touch of shaving - and a perfect fit.Handle is reasonable quality, and shows no signs of weakness after a few months of use.

Wowzers!
Neat-o this implement is cool af, been carrying it around with me all day, smacking logs and such. I really like the feel and the weight seems spot on. It came sharper than I expected. I'll take it into the forest tomorrow with the boys and give it a good trial. The handle is beautiful but I'm not afraid to harm it because like others have said it can be easily replaced. No doubt I'll try to throw the thing haha. I think it's a sturdy piece of work and if everything goes well I will not bother updating this review.
