Yes it can you just need 12volt dc power source and I used the same power source that came with a camera I purchased and spliced the power source to power the screen and camera at the same time

Q: does monitor come with power sorce

no it does not. If you want to use batteries Amazon has a 8 cell holder for AA or AAA batteries very cheap. 12vdc is what is required.
