HNS Damascus Steel Blade Pocket/Folding Hunting Knife (LARG 5073)

This is not a solicited review, and I don't usually write a one, but I just received my order today, and I was delighted! I found the craftsmanship on this knife to be top notch. It is very aesthetically pleasing to look at, everything is well fitted, smooth and polished. Sharp out of the box, oiled (not in excess, and wrapped and packed well as expected. I can safely say that this unit was made/assembled by a craftsman and is a quality item. Fits well in the hand, heavy, but not cumbersome, opens and closes smoothly. I am picky, so I am told, but actually found not one complaint. I also like that the sheath has a welt and does not have any stamped decor. (That is just cheesy in my opinion) Other knives I have purchased from different vendors in my search for a quality knife, have had imperfections (some minor, some not) such as fitting, gaps, quality or aesthetics, that were displeasing and forced a decision to return or try another vendor. Any handmade item will have some slight aspect, but what you actually deliver to the customer will reflect the craftsmanship and pride of your product. I can now stop shopping around in the hopes of getting a decent knife that I can be proud to carry, with the quality and craftsmanship one would expect. This knife was actually worth the cost. I feel confident that the two additional knives I am ordering from this vendor today, for family gifts, will be just as amazing. this is now my EDC blade. I will update the durability rating, after actually utilizing it for some time, to give an accurate rating, but for now, I will give it 3 stars, but feel confident it will be raised to 5. if you are looking for a blade with a distinct look and great craftsmanship at a reasonable price, buy this one...enough said. Hope yours was made by the same person that crafted this one, and remember, each handmade item will vary slightly, but craftsmanship should not.

This knife.... its beautiful. My horn scales matched beautifully and even if they didn't I believe the horn is gorgeous even mix matched. The knife opens smoothly and quietly and locks into place securely. No budging or movement of the blade once locked! The blade release is nice too. I am able to open it with one hand with ease thanks to the thumb stud - functions perfectly! The Damascus steel is very nice and aesthetically pleasing. I recommend oiling the knife blade to protect it long term. This is my new daily carry and it is very useful. The blade came sharp enough to cut cardboard better than a box cutter. I was looking for a large foldable pocket knife, and although it is smaller than expected its still a decent sized knife with some weight to it. Some would consider it large but I'm a big man. It fits in my hand perfectly so I conclude that it is actually the perfect size for me and I am very happy with the quality craftsmanship and functionality of the piece. The sheath does appear to be leather - the outside has been painted black and is a nice piece. Well done!

This comes well packed, covered in oil as some other reviewers have stated. It is to keep it from rusting. This is a nice quality Damascus steel pocket knife, it isn't a fake. It opens nicely, and locks in place with a stop, and closes if you tweak that stop up, careful you don't slice yourself. It comes pre-sharpened. I found that one of the pieces of steel had a scuff on it and some discoloration on another piece, but they are negligible to me. I do wish the handles matched, they are totally different colors, but appear to be made of some type of horn. I will knock down a star for those being unmatched and for the pleather? case. I'm not 100% sure if its real leather, I tried to oil it because it seemed very dry to me, and the oil NEVER soaked in at all, but should have. As for the knife, it is very giftable, and I love the designs in the steel-they are authentic-so go ahead and get it. You'll be happy you did. You might just need a new case for it. This was a gift for my son, who is a Knife collector since he was 3. I know he will love it.

Knife is packaged in a box and triple wrapped inside. I was pleasantly surprised by the knifes quality and finish. It did require a final polish on the sharpening for my preference. Rams horn handle material is beautiful. Blade is true Damascus and not an etched finish. Made a great gift for my Dad's 89th birthday. No indication of where the knife was made but everything considered, it doesn't matter.

Uncomfortably chunky and awkward in the hands. Rough edges. Very heavy. Loose blade that swings out as it pleases. Nothing to keep the blade closed when it's down.. it almost feels like it comes in contact with something too soon as it's closing and stops it short, but nothing is visibly there, so it must be the machining in the channel where the blade rests. Right handed only open design unless you try to unscrew and swap the little nub to the left side, but mine was very secure and couldn't swap it if I cared enough. Real bummer considering this was a gift and even the recipient was disappointed.

I had to return this which made me sad. I really liked the knife but I couldn't accept that the blade assist basically popped out as it seemed that it was pressed in but there was nothing holding it in place. For me opening a knife with the assist is important so i don't need to use 2 hands. Overall the blade and handle were very nice! I was a bit sad that it didn't have a clip for the pocket but it did come with a nice pouch for it.
