Great shocks but they do not include the upper bushing! I'm not talking about the top hat that you should also replace but the bushing that goes on top of the top hat (I used kyb Sm5184 top hat for a 2002 4runner) . I tried to find the bushing locally but Napa and O'Reilly didn't carry it. I ended up ordering the Gabriel 142467 Hardware Kit here on Amazon. It had the upper bushing as well as new washers. I thought about reusing the stock upper bushing but it looked a bit worn. I've had suspension bushings fail, fall out and damage other components. If you're going to go through the effort of replacing the shock, you might as well replace rubber wear parts. I didn't not know the bushing was not included. All the rubber parts were included for the rear shocks. Make sure you order the upper bushing when you order these! Why it's not included is beyond me.

This product listing says it's a miscellaneous component. That's a strange way to say it's a pair of front shocks. These are perfect for a stock-height '99 4R. Mine's an SR5, 4WD manual. Check Bilstein's site before ordering. The original shocks were shot, essentially useless, rattly and easily compressed by hand. The new ones, of course, are none of those things. Installation was the danger to life and limb we expected, with the spring compressor. I highly recommend securing the spring to something very sturdy like a big, heavy workbench, and apply a strap or other sort of loop to guard against the spring compressor failing or the spring coming loose. Once installed, great performance and no issues.

I installed these on my 4runner with some OME 880 springs. They were missing the upper bushings and washers. I'm not sure if you were supposed to reuse the factory ones but mine were trash so I had to take them off a pair of spare shocks from another project.

Everything was shipped as described. I had the local garage install them for $180 and they feel much better on the road.
