Q: What is the dimension at widest point of poll, from outside handle to other side of poll. Will it fit through a five inch hole?

Good question! We had to remove the handle (simply by unscrewing it) so that the pole would fit through the lower hole of our table. The screw hole for the handle is about 12” off the base. The handle is about 2” long. We cannot twist the handle all the way around to tighten the umbrella, because the handle bumps into the lower bracket of the table. It works fine for us since we remove the umbrella after every time we use it. If we wanted to screw the umbrella in place, we would need to replace the handle with a simple thumb screw. To directly answer your question, the pole would probably fit through a 5” hole with the handle, and it certainly would fit through if you removed the handle (and then replaced the handle once the pole is inserted).

Q: i need to know how high off the floor the base is. It is going under a table and it needs to be pretty flat on the ground to work?

Thanks for asking! The base plate of the base sits a little over an inch above the ground! I hope this helps :)
