Very thick and sturdy. Good buy.

Q: The firestarter appears to just be a ferro rod without magnesium. Is that normal for this knife?

Yes it's normal. You don't need the magnesium to start fire. Ferro rod will get the job done.

Q: Is the blade painted like there other knives, or does tumbled mean no paint?

No, there is no coating or paint. Tumbled finish is similar to a non-shiny matte finish, which reduces glare and light reflection, important for a knife of this kind. It’s a highly functional and beautiful knife.

Q: Why is the knife brand name in the description not say Tops?

Amazon has most of the Tops knives messed up brand wise. Even the ones that say Tops when you click on the brand it is not Tops knives, but like an office supply company. We have requested that they allow these to be fixed, but so far they won't.
