RAN (Vintage World Cinema)

One of the best films ever made.

This is a must see for all film buffs, especially those interested in Japanese cinema. The plot, acting, imagery and cinematography are all top notch.

I didn't see it when it came out, and I've always meant to; it's up there with his other tributes to Shakespeare and it's different enough from King Lear that it won't matter if you think you already know the story.Also, I'm used to his b+w films: the colour and the panoramic shots are magnificent. I'm going to have to save up for Kagemusha now.

Great movie

I first saw Ran in 1985 . Since then I ve seen it 3 times. Each time it seems to get better. It is a marvellous treatment of Shakespeare. It's King Lear, but it has it own quality as well. Akiro Kurosawa was one of the greatest directors, a true artist.
