Very well made
I have two of these, installed at two houses; one of them has been installed for over 6 years. These radiation shields are very well made, and perform flawlessly. The plastic is very high grade; in 6 years, there were no signs of yellowing or becoming brittle. The construction is excellent. It is very easy to properly and securely set the sensor so that it is close to the center of the internal measurement chamber. Various papers on the web show that the Davis radiation shields are the best, or among the very best. I cannot be more satisfied with mine, certainly. The (Kitchen) on the side of the review title is Amazon's idea, not mine! I am using this radiation shield outdoors, attached to the roof eaves.

Very good quality Solar Radiation Shield.
Solid Radiation Shield, good quality, kind of heavy, when I received the package I thought, what is this, why so heavy? Hopefully this will tell you something. I added two sensor, the Sensirion SHT31 temperature and humidity sensor, and the Bosch BM388 temperature and barometric sensor. I installed the shield under the solar panel to protect the sensors from hot summer days, hopefully this way I will get better accurate readings. I am feeding these data to Wunderground. My only grief is with the seller, sloooow shipper! About the same time I ordered this item from Amazon, I also ordered something else from China, guess what? The China item arrive first, wow! I think the seller uses the cheapest he/she can find to ship this item.

Worth the money
I will have to agree with another reviewer who stated it was a good product but made for a specific sensor.I found the unit well made but difficult to assemble. Since I bought it knowing it was not designed to fit my sensor and that modifications were necessary I was pleased to find the materials sturdy and easy to modify.I would suggest that the manufacturer redesign a model that would accept taller sensors. This is a good buy!

Freat product!
Works as advertised. Assembly not too difficult. My ambient 8600 sensor fits in cavity easily and now shows actual temp and Hg. A bit expensive but you pay for the quality and sturdiness.

Davis 7714 Passive Radiation Shield
I ordered this product because my intention was to use it to shield the WeatherFlow AIR sensor. A modification had to be made; the bottom of the 3 solid plates had to be cut out (similar to the open plates already with the item) in order for the Radiation Shield to completely fit over the top of the WeatherFlow WFAIR-01. This modified Radiation Shield now keeps direct sunlight off of the WFAIR-01. . .while at the same time. . .it allows for complete airflow around the sensor thus providing adequate ambient temperature.

Caution, This is for a Davis Temperature sensor only
Before my purchase I checked everywhere on the Internet to determine the outside and inner size dimension of this shield. I needed a solar shield which could accommodate several temperature transmitters but I could find no such information. The Davis website didn't even have it. Unfortunately I relied on a review of this product which described it as rectangular and the size of a watermelon. It's neither. Square and just larger than a softball. The inner cavity is designed specifically for a wired Davis probe which is very small. I was able to squeeze a lengthwise Acurite probe into the cavity, had it been a tiny fraction of an inch longer it wouldn't have fit. I deduct two stars for the failure to indicate the size or the fact this was specifically for a propriety Davis instrument only. Now for the evaluation of the shield itself. Incredible quality. You can pass this down through generations. The plastic is so solid a sledge hammer couldn't break it. The louvers are snug which would prevent insects from trying to make this a living space. The attachment bracket is heavy steel and powder coated paint. I'm sure the shield would never fade from the solar rays. I've used the Acurite shield shown above and there's no comparison whatsoever. I will note the Acurite lasted me several years and the interior dimensions are described. Otherwise, no comparison. If you plan on using one transmitter such as the long Acurite or the smaller Oregon Scientific, this is a great shield despite its higher price, it will last forever. On a final note, the assembly of this shield isn't intuitive despite lengthy instructions. Plan on taking twice as long as you think to put it together. I have enclosed a couple of photos which show the limited interior and the final product. If you can live with interior limitations and price this will last forever.

Dimensions
Very well made. Dimensions of cavity: 4.25" long x 3.25" wide x 2.625" deep. Overall: 8.25" long x 7.25" wide x 6" tall. Would have been 5 stars if 2 out of 3 wing nuts weren't missing.
