not working - update, my error
2nd review. When I wrote my review some months back I thought the light was defective. Turns out I had placed the light in the location that didn't give it adequate exposure to light. The company on their own sent me two new lights. I now have four perfectly good lights. I contacted Amazon so I could get the address of the company so I could send them a check for the two additional lights. This seemed to confuse Amazons Customer service and after 20 minutes they hung up on me. Selling company, please contact me so I can pay for the additional lights you sent me.Purchased a set of two. One not working other one is fine. I liked the looks, quality seems good but one quit working after two days. So, can't be switched not turned on. Unless the blub has already burned out.

They light up our world...
at least our back porch!Solar powered so we didn't have to have our porch wired to get light. They automatically light up at night and recharge all day. These are metal instead of plastic like our previous solar lights; very attractive and have 4 solar panels on each light so they can charge as the sun moves.Super easy to hang and activate.

The company made it right
Last and final update:I am the first to admit I was wrong. My second update said the replacement only worked for a day- that's because my husband accidentally turned off the switch. So it does work. Also, the company reached out, spoke to me about my experience, and offered to replace my set for free. I really do like the ones I have, they are much nicer than the traditional plastic ones you get at Walmart. I'm really torn by this. Ultimately, I raised the rating back up for two reasons: #1 I haven't been able to find a comparable lantern for the price, and #2, when I stated that I wasn't happy with the product, the company reached out and made it right. So knowing that they stand behind it, makes me feel better about pushing the rating back up.UPDATE: My original review is below. I'm updating my rating from 4 stars to 1 star. Amazon sent me a replacement set for my broken one, and I was to send back the broken. Well, in the replacement set, the first one I removed from the box was already broken. I put a freshly charged battery from my other lamp into it, and it wouldn't light up. I took the second replacement out, and this one did work. For one day. All I did was assemble it, and hang it on a shepherd's hook in my front yard. The first night? Worked fine. The second night? It did not light up. It was a sunny day, so I know the battery should have charged. So, out of four being shipped to me, only one has managed to work. Save your money. I ordered a set of hanging solar lanterns with thousands of feedback and almost 5 stars for less than half the cost of these.____________________________________________I was a bit ambivalent about ordering these, as I thought the price was too steep and a few reviews talked about the packaging being sub-par and the tops of them loose. However, I decided to get them against my better judgment because I loved the shape and size.First off, I do want to acknowledge that when they work, they are very nice. They are big enough to be eye-catching, but small enough not to be too gaudy. The brackets that hold them are small, metal, and sturdy. I did install one next to my patio door, and it gives off a wonderful soft glow that accentuates my other deck solar lighting. I'm used to plastic lighting, so it was refreshing to feel the metal and glass on these. There is even a mirror reflector on the bottom inside of the lantern that helps disperse the light. Frankly speaking, I like them. Or one, I should say, because only one worked when I got them. Now onto the negatives. The other statements about the packaging are correct; it's not very well done. The box from Amazon was unscathed, and the lanterns sat inside another box. After I cut through layers of tape and plastic, I finally got to the lanterns only to find that one lantern's bulb had jostled out of the solar lid during shipment. I set the loose bulb aside & marked it in case it didn't work. The other lantern made it unscathed. The metal solar lid to the lantern doesn't lock in when you spin it, and I can see why other people have been concerned about a storm taking them out. It takes almost no resistance to take the tops on and off.I assembled the lanterns, turned them on, and let them sit in direct sunlight all day. That night, only one lantern lit up. I opened them, and saw that the bulb I marked was the one that wasn't lighting up. I switched the batteries around to see if it was a battery problem; nope. It was just a bulb problem. However, I felt more than disappointed to spend $45 on two nice lanterns, only to find one worked.I am giving them 4 stars. If the seller/manufacturer could figure out a way to secure the tops a little more, and also package them a bit better to prevent issues during shipment, I would give them 5 stars.

Should last for years and casts a lot of light
I bought these to hang on shepherd's crooks on a slope in my yard. I really wasn't interested in the light because it is in an area I seldom go near at night but am surprised how well it lights up the area. I just needed something to justify the shepherd's crooks I had placed to help me navigate the slope when tending it. I have very poor balance and just have something to touch makes the slope managable. These are made of aluminum and glass with replaceable bulbs and batteries. They only get about 6 hours of sun but they stay on at least 5 hours (I have not tried to stay up longer to test). The first box I got did not contain the top ring and screw attachment so I returned it but the replacement was received very quickly. I am handy but could not figure out a way to devise another to attach a ring without the top ring that comes with the lanterns. The only flaw is that the way to attach the ring is with a silvery metal screw that is a hollow tube with threads on its outside. The ring portion screws on the outside but it has no center part to prevent rain from going down the 1/2" diameter opening. I caulked the hole to prevent problems. The ring is small but does fit on 3/5" diameter shepherd's crooks. I am ordering more.

So far, so EXCELLENT!
First night (haven't hung yet) after charging up. USPS delivered at 11:30am today. Immediately unboxed, turned on & set in full sun. These pix are from 8:41pm and they probably only received @ 6 hours of heavy sun so we're very pleased. Recommended is 8-12. Not sure if I should be switching off until I charge up more tomorrow but they seem fine. They're heavy metal, well made and very bright. I have other ground solar spots around the property but these having "actual light bulbs" makes a big difference! They glisten compared to just the normal LED track. These look expensive and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this and a full-electric powered light walking by it.I did save the boxes "just in case" but so far we LOVE them. Reading the majority of the 1-3 star reviews had me concerned because one would stop working after a day-or-to/week-or-two, etc. I'll definitely update this review if I have problems. I will also add another pic once installed & show illumination on the driveway gate posts. We're rural so it's pitch black here at night - these should really help illuminate our driveway entrance.
