This niacin is the real deal. I purchased it after reading the book on Niacin by Hoffer. I highly recommend the book, too. When I took my first one, I was ready for the flush. Nothing happened! Hoffer says if you don't flush the first few times, then it means your body really needs it badly. After an hour and a half, I took another one. That time I flushed. The next day, I took two at a time with Vitamin C and an aspirin. I again flushed, but it was not nearly as bad as the first one the day before and I ended up getting in my 3,000 mg during the day. I took my last two equaling 1,000 mg before bed and was asleep before any flush hit. I remembered waking briefly and feeling itchy, but was able to go right back to sleep. Today, I have done what I did yesterday and have not flushed once, so I guess my body is acclimated. I plan to increase my dosage up to 5,000 per day, and that might cause a flush again, but my point is that it has not been bad at all and this is totally doable. I shall back down to about 2 to 3,000 per day for maintenance. Niacin is absolutely essential to our bodies and my arthritis and sleep problems have already disappeared. I'm looking forward to increased HDL and I hope my gum pockets will improve as well. I will report back here in four months, after my dental cleaning, to report if that happens for me. I highly recommend this product and the book. Get the book!UPDATE: 1/30/17My husband has gone back to the doc and his cholesterol is outstanding! No more statins for him! A friend had the same result when seeing her doctor last week. He even asked her what she did because he wanted to do it. She said he got quiet when she told him. Doctors know little about nutrition, but the more I learn, the more I agree with tenets of Orthomolecular medicine - all illness is due to lack of needed nutrients. If we can know our symptoms and match them to a needed nutrient, we can heal ourselves. Good health to all!

Not sure why it states this on the product description; needs to be changed.Let me assure you, this very much IS the flushing kind! I took one pill, and after 15-20 minutes nothing happened. I thought it was a dud.Oh, and then it hit! MY GOD what a flush! It lasted over an hour, and it was extremely uncomfortable.Keep in mind I have taken 4.000 to 5,000mg of niacin in the past, so I know what flushing is! This is only 500mg and wow does it punch!With that out of the way, others have stated sometimes you get a flush and sometimes you don't; not sure why but in any case it seems very high quality.

I take this brand of niacin as I am confident the quality is good. A little spendy, but good quality.I take 1 gm niacin in my morning coffee specifically for the flush. It stimulates micro-circulation which is a good thing. You get used to the flush. After a while it does diminish. I believe it also helps with NAD+ production.Try taking niacin for the flush before you start your workout to increase circulation.I am sure there are other benefits, but these are what I take it for.

Thought I would try this brand after the last (different) brand ran out. Unfortunately, it caused severe burning and all of my upper body and face and some of my leg area to go blood red, it was severely itchy and burning and I thought I was going to die. I was about to get my spouse to take me to the ER room because I even struggled to breathe. I don't know if I am allergic to this particular brand (some form of it) or what. I know it is not unusual to have hot flush but I had extremely severe and each night that I took 1 pill it was worse than the night before. By night number 3 I decided it was maybe dangerous or deadly for me. It may be ok for other people though. This is to warm people that it is possible that they may get a reaction like mine and maybe start on a lower dosage and work up from there. I have a 100 mg tablet in this same brand and it did not do that to me. I am not sure if it was just that one bottle of 500 mg that I had bad luck with or if the dosage is way too high for me personally or to start with. The severe rash, overheating, burning and feeling really very bad lasted for 2-3 hours then went away, thankfully (all 3 nights that I took 1 pill). The strange thing is I used another well-respected brand and started on 500 mg on that and was told by my Naturepath that I might have some flushing for about 10 minutes (but I did not).

I've been taking this product for many years, ever since reading about its benefits. I take two 500 mg capsules with my breakfast and two more at dinnertime and this results in a high HDL level, which is a good thing. My wife takes a statin which gives her a low total count, but a very low HDL, which is not a good thing.A major problem for some of the reviewers is a sudden and very uncomfortable flush. It is important to ramp up slowly. Start with 50 mg for a week or two, then 100 mg. then 200 until you reach the 500 level without any discomfort. Do not make the mistake of using the flush free since this has no benefits at all.I would advise new users to read up on the subject. There is plenty of material on the internet as well as in your local library.The reason for my giving the Solgar product 4 stars instead of 5 is its high price which seems to be a bit out of line. That being said however, they do make a consistently good product so I bite my tongue and buy it anyway.

good product..get a good flush and improves circulation

NIACIN is very important to me. It has to be the real thing. Niacin that makes you flush, because without it I wouldn't have the cardiac benefit.
