Works perfectly for some dogs, not at all for others.
These work very well for my bulldog. We put one in the trash can and one inside it. She has learned to leave my office trash alone and now we're working on my daughter's bedroom trash! These things scare her so much that if I even pick it up she books it from the room. They don't hurt at all. Even my 6 year old can put her hand on it and let it snap her without pain. It's just a jump-scare effect. These do not work with all dogs. I am a trainer and was very excited about this product. I was showing them to a client for her to use on her schnauzer. With the trap set, the schaunzer went straight up to it - we all braced ourselves for the hilarity to ensue - but instead he went to bite it, it snapped onto his face, he didn't flinch in the slightest and instead took it happily to his owner and put it in her hand. It was a little embarrassing since I was just telling her how great they are! But still quite funny. My bulldog is a sensitive little thing and the schnauzer wasn't. This is one of those things that if it works, it's awesome. If it doesn't, try something else!

Did not work
For one thing, this thing is made cheap. It broke too easily because the metal piece that locks it into place actually cut into the plastic piece that holds the locking mechanism. One of them I managed to get locked but the other just had a bent metal piece and because of that, it was too sensitive to any movement. My cat just walked around the one snappy. Did not go off at all to scare him. And the other one was still not set right even though I read the instructions and did what it said. Save your money (luckily I got my refund) and just try tinfoil or a cucumber/zucchini. Apparently they’re scared of that but some cats don’t care at all so good luck on figuring out what really works and doesn’t. But these snappy aren’t the answer that’s for sure.

Works like a charm
Our boxer had turned into a series counter surfer. Nothing could stop him... until now! It took two times for him to stop trying to even look on the counter. Two harmless snaps and he won't go near it. I love the safety of these. No worries he'll get hurt. Easy to use. So glad I got them!

Works pretty good
I gave this a 4 star instead of 5 star rating as there was no markings on the rubber to cut as it said to in the directions which showed "markings" to cut along to change the size of the rubber if the dog is over 40 lbs (or 45 - I forgot). So I just left it as it was and set it up. Still waiting to see if it works with my 90 lb dog to keep him off the bay window and scratching my counter when he looks out the kitchen window when I am gone. He never does these things when I am home. I really hope this works. Sometimes I had to smack it a few times to get it to set off and sometimes it went off with the slightist touch - will wait and see how it goes.

Dangerous
Sturdy and easy to set up. However, will not work for all dogs and all situations. I tried using them for the garbages. (bathroom, office...). My dog knew when it was in there so didn't go at first, which I can't do everytime I leave the house or else I'll just pick up the garbage instead. Then I found a few times it was tripped but she still got the garbage. Another time found the plastic in the hall which is extremely dangerous for a dog to possible chew or get the metal bar stuck in their throat. Returned them.

Doesn't work for cats
This might work for dogs, but my cats are far too careful to trigger it, even on the softest setting. More likely to snap my own fingers than scare my cats off my countertops.

Only attempted once
Have 1 year old Goldendoodle that recently realizes she's tall enough to get things off the counter. Setup 2 traps with soft dog treat as bait. She set off 1 time and has never got on counter again. Leaving traps up for now but I think 1 time may have done it. Fingers crossed!

Easy to set Works to really frighten but not hurt
Sweet revenge! So dang tired of my sneaky pete dog going in and raiding the rubbish basket for disgusting things like used tissues. He learned to do it when I was gone, so: Leave house, return to shreds of stuff hauled out all over the house. Grrrrr. Decided to give this a try. Set it. Left house. Snuck swiftly around the side and stood under the open window to see if he'd try it. 30 seconds later, WHACK! Yipe! Scurrying feet. HaHaHaHa! Gotcha! Unhurt, but thoroughly shocked.Reset it left it there for 3 weeks. Nothing. So... took it out. Left house that afternoon. Came back. Shreds everywhere. Grrrr. Evidently he'd been looking but not touching. Put it back. 2 mos later we've had no raids. My waste basket simply has a new decoration. As long as he sees it there he won't go near it. Good enough for me.
