White Cargo: The Forgotten History of Britain's White Slaves in America Paperback – March 8, 2008

I listen to this book on Audible, most excellent. I then brought the paperback book for my sister, she found it to very enlightening. Real history that is not taught in our schools but should be!

Well researched. Fascinating information.

I really enjoyed the facts and stories presented in this book. It makes you look at the foundation of the United States a bit more objectively as it is definitely a side of history we are not taught in schools. I appreciated the detail with which the author presents the history along with the connections made between events in the book and the ripples they created through the ensuing history in England and America.As for why it is not 5 Stars, there were loads of typos and formatting issues in the Kindle Version unfortunately and I felt the content could have been structured a bit better. The author tends to jump around in the timeline quite a bit so it takes a bit of effort to keep everything straight. Overall a great read and I would highly recommend it if you are interested in Colonial America.

Very interesting book about an era of slavery we hear nothing about in popular culture.

Just started reading but so far very engaging coverage of a historically significant subject matter that seems to have been shunned from our institutes of learning and teaching. Handles very well for a soft cover book. Typeset and sentence spacing provide a comfortable reading experience. Impressive pictures and maps collected together near the mid-point of the book. Beefy notes and helpful index.

This book should be a mandatory read for high school students during their cultural diversity month.

This is a scholarly review of slavery practiced in England. Indentured servitude is included as a form of slavery. English, Irish, Scots enslaved each other. This was a form of getting rid of “ undesirables” from even before the colonizing of the New World. Thst it predated the enslavement of Africans was a surprise to me. Good to learn all history.

Glad to see this being brought out about the original slaves that built America men, women, and children. Scholars have tried very hard not to allow this original disgrace to come to light. It's time to face the fact that America is where Britain sent undesirables. A great book everyone should learn about.

Jeez what an eye opener and to think that all this torture was done by one country on a majority of its own people..Amazing story, well written and revised. We were never told about this at school, eh?u

This is a book on the massive amount of White Slavery that existed in Europe and the Colonies long before Black Slavery existed. Black Slavery came into being only when the 1% ran out of White slaves in Europe and in their Colonies all over the World. It is "deleted" white History to cover-up the true and never ending immorality of the "1%" and the Political and Financial people who do their bidding i.e. the Political Leaders we keep voting into Power. Where did they learn to whip the Black Slaves?... to chain-up the Black Slaves? They didn't . They merely did to the black slaves what they had always been doing to their European White Slaves. White Cargo is but another reeling example of deliberately "deleted" history that has conveniently kept us living our little illusions of freedom and democracy. The history our grand parents, parents, and now our children and grandchildren were and are still being taught is entirely fabricated. Fabricated to protect the Leaders and decision-makers who rule our immoral Society... a Society they created to keep themselves at the top... of the Pyramid.
