Q: What if you have hard water, does the bladder fill up with calcium deposits?

Hi, the tank I removed was over 20 years and the same model. I have hard water and asked the same question, so I cut it open. To my surprise there was just a little build up. I did install a pre-pressure tank vortex filter when I replaced tank. It works well.

Q: What size threaded pipe connection?

I believe it 1.25 , look on the website for sure.

I did not have to adjust the pressure. You set this with the tank empty (I checked my install with a pressure guage before I pressured it up by opening a shutoff valve before the tank). The tanks come pre-pressurized with 38psi. Hence they are setup to work with a 40psi cut-in pressure switch. The 2psi difference is below the pressure switches cut-in setting. If you have a 40psi cutin switch with a 60psi shutoff setting, you would set the tanks pressure at 38psi when empty. If you have a 20/40 pressure switch, you would need to reset the tanks pressure to 18psi. If, on the other hand you have a 30/50 pressure switch, then you would need the tanks pressure set to 28psi. You need the tank's empty psi setting slightly below the switch cut in pressure or the pump will never come on as the pressure switch will never see a psi at or below the cut in pressure. To add or remove air there is a shrader valve (where you check the pressure). Simply bleed off some air if you need a lower static settting and recheck with a pressure guage, or add some air. A bike pump would take a long time as the volume is large. I'd use a small air compressor (possibly a portable on that runs off you car's 12v socket). Again, after adjusting the pressure re-check with a proper guage (i.e., one with a dial and not the cheap kind you would use for a bicycle tire).
