Works great at our small office!
I always work towards less plastic, and luckily having a position of making shopping decisions at our small office I decided to try compostable bags instead of plastic. These work fabulously! Our regular plastic ones used to leak all the time, these actually have a better no-leak record at our office! I am honestly surprised how they stand up to nasty crap our office throws away. The only thing that differentiates these from plastic is if you throw away a lot of wet things you need to empty it more frequently as the wet food/trash actually breaks down these bags within days, which is a good sign (they compost!). But you wouldn't want to leave that in for long anyways, if you start to smell your trash outside the closed trash can, you should take it out one way or another! Other than that, they tear just like the plastic bags do from "sharp" trash, so watch for that. All in all, amazing and makes us feel better about our environmental footprint.

recent purchases were already somewhat decomposed when received
I have been buying these for several years, and they have been great for paper, compostable household trash. However, the bags in my last two orders tore easily and and were split down the sides when I opened them. It looks as though they had been stored in a warehouse for some time and had already started to decompose. I used them by double-bagging, but in the future I will buy comparable products from some other source.

Hold up to gentle cat scratches mostly
I lay it at the bottom of litter box so I don't have to scoop up cat poop when pregnant. It does good enough job most of the time, kind of hold up to cat scratches when I put more litter - my litter brand is using recycled paper so I am ok with using a little more, as green as I could be.

These do not break or rip! yay!
I have been STRUGGLING with the "If You Care" biodegradable bags for years. They rip, and I end up using 2 and sometimes 3 bags for taking out the garbage, which is not only time-consuming and annoying, but expensive. These bags are also biodegradable, but they are much stronger. So far, I have not had any rip, and it's very quick and easy to get them off the roll. I am quite careful about not putting sharp edged things into the bag unless they are cushioned by other stuff, but still, not rips. I realize that these Stout bags will not biodegrade quite as quickly as the "If You Care" brand, but ultimately if I'm forced to use 2 or 3 of those at a time, it probably amounts to the same thing.I refuse to use plastic bags or even recycled plastic bags, and these Stout brand bags allow me to be environmentally responsible without sacrifice. Such a relief. Great product.

Fragile--they rip easily, but they are compostable
There are few options for compostable garbage bags, so I keep buying these. But beware, they are very fragile, and rip easily. I have to "double-bag" them most of the time for a week's amount of garbage.

Works for us
I work at a non-profit where we have lunches every week, so our compost bins get pretty full. We like these bags. We've tried the most popular version of the compostable bag and they fall apart right away, these seem to hold up pretty well. The popular bag is .65mil compared to this one at .85mil. Stout also makes a 1.1mil bag.Do these shred/break? Yes. They are more brittle & less flexible than a regular plastic (aka petroleum - gulf oil spill anyone?) but compared to other fully compostable bags we have tried, these seem much sturdier.Stout also makes a degradable bag (breaks down to smaller pieces, but still contains petroleum) that are better than plastic garbage bags, but not compostable.I would recommend these bags, HOWEVER, they will slit or split with sharp-edged items (like carboard corners). It is probably best to restrict these to being used for compost rather than regular trash. AND, they DO need to be dumped/changed out at least 1x per week because they ARE compostable. Heat and moisture will break them down more quickly.
