Henna for Hair
This is the second time I've ordered this. The product itself is really good. It's just pure powder. It's a green color, meaning it is fresh. If I were using it for skin, I would sift it but it's in perfect condition. It came in a bright yellow stitched bag with sanskrit on it and a mehndi hand.I use it to dye my strawberry blonde hair a rich red color. I've been using this process for about 4 years now and my hair is healthy/vibrant. I get many compliments on the color. You can learn more at tapdancinglizard.com.Here is my process:Mix about 2 cups of pure henna powder (beware of chemicals or additives, must be pure and natural) with lemon juice and warm tea or coffee (I do this for a deeper color). Let set for 15-24 hours until the dye releases (you can tell because when you mix it, you'll see a darker color on top).Place on hair starting at roots always. It's a mud and it's not super easy to work with but it's really not bad once you get used to it. Always wear gloves. Never add terps oil or it will dye your skin (that the difference for the henna for skin recipe). Once you have a head full of henna, wrap it in saran wrap, cover with a shower cap, put a turban, towel or scarf on, and wait for 4 hours OR cover your pillow with a towel and sleep on it.To remove: I just remove the head gear, step in the shower and use my removable shower head to gently rinse all the henna mud from my hair. Don't shampoo or condition. Just water. IF you must, you can use a detangler. The first day or so, the color will seem a bit bright but then it will settle a little darker. I make sure the rinse the shower curtain and shower to make sure I didn't leave any mess anywhere.Henna will stain fabric and other porous surfaces... so make sure to get red or black towels and wear dark colors and you will be fine.

It's good henna powder, research your dye release process
After going to repurchase this product and realizing that I have bought it more than 10 times for almost a decade I figured a review was in order. I would imagine that some of the less positive reviews here are more user error than an issue with the product. This powder works very well when used correctly.I have fine, blonde hair and I apply henna to just my roots every 2-3 weeks. The result is an even, rich red color that is truly permanent. Please note that the end result of any henna application is affected by your natural hair color.I have tried using an acid alone (lemon juice or vinegar), water + an acid, and water alone over the years. All of these combinations have worked, although I find the acid alone kind of drying.I get okay-adequate dye release from adding hot water, letting it sit mixed on the counter for 2-3 hours, then applying to my roots for 2-3 hours but a quick Google will reveal that most henna users prefer to let the first stage sit for much longer. Dye release is actually best, in my experience, by mixing the henna, freezing the mixture at least overnight, then thawing at room temp and applying to hair (again, 2-3 hours). You can also save any extras this way. Works wonderfully.

100% gray cover.
It serves its purpose. Complete gray cover and conditions hair and scalp cleanser.Only issue it’s has some small clamps which is not much of a problem if you are using it for hair but might need sifting if you would like a smoother paste.I would buy it again and recommend for others who are looking a natural way to cover gray and condition hair.

Wish I had heeded the bad reviews - this is NOT 100% pure henna!
I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon, and I write a lot of reviews. I usually read reviews very thoroughly before buying a new item, and my failure to do that this time has definitely turned out for the worst. Plain and simple, the item that is shipped is NOT 100% pure henna. When left to sit 12 hours in straight lemon juice (my normal henna procedure - has worked many times before), this product remained a very bright green instead of gradually turning brown. Foolishly, I proceeded to apply it to my hair as usual. After letting it sit for 4 hours (also my standard henna procedure), I washed it out. I usually soak my hair in a hot bath for a minute or two to make the henna easier to wash out. The water in the bathtub also turned a bright green instead of the usual "muddy water" look. As the tub drained, I saw many small green fibers sticking to the sides of the tub, and more continued to come out of my hair. They looked like 3mm long bits of green thread. As the final straw, it did not color my hair the characteristic bright red of henna (I have very light colored hair naturally), but a darker, almost brownish color. I went back and examined the packaging, not pretty convinced that I had been a victim of false advertising. Sure enough, right there on the bag was written: "Key ingredients: Henna Powder." Big difference between "key" ingredient and "only" ingredient.Thankfully, Amazon is letting me return this fraudulent product for a full refund (which is just one more reason I love Amazon - they are willing to make things right). I'm really just thankful my hair didn't get dyed bright green!
