Hobie created the Turbo Fin Upgrade Kit with performance in mind. Our Turbo fins incorporate a larger fin template, providing faster top-end speed, increased responsiveness and the ability to cover more water with less pedaling. Additionally, most individuals prefer the longer fin for increased lateral resistance when using a Mirage Sail kit.

They really make a difference .
I have a tandem kayak and had bought one set to see if they were worth it, they are. So I bought a second set and have gained a mile and hour is speed.

Fit perfect and took less than 5 minutes to change.
The new turbo fins Fit perfect and took less than 5 minutes to change out. The difference in the fins was about 2 inches additional length and just slightly wider than the regular fins. Then after installation and getting out on the lake I realized the difference almost immediately. With slower strokes I could feel I was pushing more water and the Hobie Lynx cruised smoothly. I was able to get the same 3 MPH with a slower, more steady pace than achieved by the regular fins. Top speed with the regular fins was 3.5-4 mph while the turbos I was able to go 4.5-5 mph with relative ease.And these are kickup fins also. These will not work on anything but the MD-180 kick-up drive. I do recommend them if you have the leg power and want a little faster cruising speed without the faster pedaling speeds.

Expensive but worth it.
I wanted the turbo fins for improved pedaling power and better sailing. Still, I was a little concerned because my main kayaking playground is a Sound with many random shallow areas. I was afraid too much additional length would have me kicking up (or hung up) constantly. I was pleasantly surprised to find these fins have less than 2” of additional length compared to the standard kick up fins. Install is very straightforward and simple. You just need the correct sized hex wrench for removing the main screw bolt that holds the fin on. So easy that no instructions are needed or included. Takes 5 minutes to change them out. Very happy with this purchase.

Give you a little more speed and Power.
Very easy to install, just don't over tighten the screws. You do gain a little bit of speed and power but they're fairly expensive for what they are.

What a difference
We bought these for our Hobie Compass Duo. What a difference. We noticed we put out a bit more effort with our legs but went so much faster. It’s similar to using the high gears on a bike. We were able to kayak around the shorelines of some amazing lakes in a fraction of the time… even left a wake behind us. So cool.
