AKG P170 is a very good mike.
This a great microphone my purposes.I record my acoustic guitars using this mike. It is very cost effective, has great performance and a high dynamic range. Other mikes at much higher prices do not perform as well as this mike. Please keep in mind that this is a condenser mike that requires phantom power, which means that either the mixer or the device that you use to record can provide it, or need to get an adapter to supply the phantom power (nominal 48 volts).I have two of them. They are very well constructed and very robust.

Great Value
AKG microphones have been around a long time. For $90 some dollars this is the perfect microphone for use in the pick-up of a small choir or some wind instruments. We're using this microphone on the stage at Church. Picks up the saxophone and flute beautifully. You need to gauge the "cone of sensitivity" of the microphone to focus on a small group of musicians. This microphone has a pretty tight Cardioid pattern. That's the beauty of this unit. 2 of these mic's, properly spaced, would be perfect for a small choir or singing group. Better than those hanging mic's usually used for choir. Those are feedback generators!

Good addition
I bought this to record an acoustic guitar. I especially wanted a mike that minimised the amount of breathing it picked up, so the pencil-style suited my needs. I have recorded both steel and nylon string guitars and it works well for both. I found the mike not as good as my Blue Yeti for the steel, but maybe better for the nylon. Perhaps I need to fiddle with EQ a bit more. I haven't tried it with vocals. Anyway, I'm pleased with the purchase!

Excellent on cajón peruano
I use it with a Cajon Peruano; I pick this model because of frequency response which is slightly higher on high and lows, making it perfect for this instrument. The results are great.Construction is solid. Very good product.

What a perfect acoustic guitar mic
What a perfect acoustic guitar mic. I am using it primarily to record my vintage classical Suzuki. Amazing sensitivity and great pickup pattern. Recordings sound live and with presence / lower mids defined. 20db cut switch is handy for work with guitar cabs and probably loud horns as well. Can be used for vocals if you use a pop screen. This is a great value for $73.sleek design and comes with a mic stand clip. Will be purchasing another for stereo recording. Stefanie Howlett.P.S. The black foam from inside the AKG box makes for a PERFECT monitor isolation pad.

AKG says this is not an authorized dealer
Microphone did not work. It produces a hum that makes any recording useless. Since hums are often present in sound recording it took me a while (and more money buying a power conditioner, stand alone phantom power, new microphone cables) to narrow down that it was the microphone. This is my hobby and not my profession so I don't do this everyday. Either way, once I figured out it was the microphone, it was outside the Amazon return period, and so I reached out to AKG about their warranty and they told me this is not an authorized AKG Seller and that there is no warranty. Buyer beware.

Great Mic!
have not been in recording for very long but enough to know that this is a very good mic for the money. I have various Audio Technica condensor large diaphragm condensor types, KLM condensors, AT small diaphragms and other assorted. Just recorded an audition CD for a very good flute player using this mic for the first time and wow it sounded great. The light blue anodizing looks cool too. I will be using it alot for violins, viola and flutes in the future.

Great mic for film
I bought this mic for recording instruments but didn't have a chance to use it until I was running sound for a 48hr film festival. It proved to be a workhorse in any situation where a shotgun was not required. It has a really natural and rich sound on speech and sound fx. The bass response is not excellent however which would be the one major weakness. If you are a filmmaker on a budget(or next to no budget) this is an excellent mic!
