Came not sharp at all
The problem whit this knife I bought them and it didn't came sharp at all and you can't sharp it like a regular knife because the material is made off, the only one that was little bit sharp was the small knife, the chef knife and the vegetable knife have no sharpening at all, really disappointed with this product I recieved it not sharp and it said that it should be and last for long time like is described in the product description and guarantee. Now I want to return it and I have to pay shipping .I really don't know what to do after I spend so much money the product look great but I can't even cut a tomato with it . Please I was hoping coming from a prestige company like kamikoto be able to be better then this. Sow far no solution other than pay to return it back.

High Quality and Stellar Looks!
These blades are with out a doubt the coolest knives I have bought. The black/blue sheen is truly hypnotic to look at. Beyond just looking nice, the quality is absolutely there as well. They are sharp as anything I've ever owned, and a real pleasure to use. The blades have almost no weight and the wooden handles add a rustic feel while still having the relaxing ergonomic shape that all Kamikoto knives boast. The Santoku is a blast to use and has become my wife's favorite knife. The veggie knife is... unique (it's too similar to the Santoku, in my humble opinion. May have gotten a better variety if they did a chefs knife or carving knife.) But the real (dark)star of the set is the pairing knife. I have found my favorite detail knife with little dude. Light as a feather, but tough as a ox, it can filet fish is a snap, and veggies cower before its mini-might. I am very happy with this purchase!Couple of caveats: The blades are 'relatively' fragile, and should never be used on bones or hard/frozen items. This also means they can only be resharpened by very specific means. Also, the blades are not metal (hence the light weight), and therefore, not magnetic. If you use a mag-strip knife holder (like me) you may have to get creative on how to display/store the knives. Still worth it though!

Great knife, perfect balance, razor sharp when sharpened with a whet stone.
These knifes are great!. For everyone complaining about them arriving dull, this is correct. You have to sharpen them. Japanese blades are not like other knives. They are single beveled, meaning they are only sharpened on one side. To sharpen you will need to buy a whet stone and sharpen them at a 20 degree angle, not the standard 45 degrees. I’ve worked as a professional chef for years and these are by far some of the best knives I have ever used. What makes them what they are is the way the steal is folded multiple times during forging creating a strong blade that will not chip or break. I also find these knives to have the perfect balance. They feel great in the hand and I have no problem cutting anything. I would highly recommend these knives, however you may want to get them directly from the distributor. That’s where I got mine. I’ve had them for over 2 years and have had nothing but a positive experience.

received as a gift and love the knives.
Unlike some, I love these knives. well balanced and fit my hand perfectly. First thing I used them on was a tomato, WOW! knife just glided through it like butter. I then turned the knife, blade up and pushed a tomato down word onto the blade, sliced it in half with ease. knives arrived sharp, not dull like others have stated.

Very disappointing and not worth it!
Very disappointed and not worth the cost. They look great but everything else about these knives are disappointing.I waited roughly 6 months before writing a review so it was well based. Unfortunately, these came extremely dull. We bought additional products to properly sharpen, as recommended, which didn’t change much, they are still very dull. In my opinion, I don’t think they can be sharpened. At the price point that these knives are marketed, they should be very high quality. My $30 knives from Costco perform better than these.I am extremely saddened by this because my husband has been wanting a good knife set for a long time and chose these. I finally splurged and got him this set as a gift. To our surprise, they were nothing like what he was looking for and now we have spent money on something we will not be able to use. Not too mention, it was a lot of money to begin with. So, so disappointed!

Meh, just ok
Knives are beautiful but didn’t arrive nearly as sharp as they should have. Disappointed in the fragility, not able to smash garlic etc. They’re just ok

Good knives
I just received my order of Kamikoto knives and whetstone that I saw in the WSJ and ordered at a discount thru the dealer. I have found no discrepancies upon initial inspection that would confirm the accusations made in the other reviews of not being sharpened and being made in China. I see no reason for those being viable observations and should not be taken seriously. The one about breaking I will hold my comment on until I have had opportunity to use the knives. But on first inspection and handling the knives appears to be of high quality and a good bargain.
