Fluke QUALITY (Model 417D is Made In Hungary)
Fluke - 5099292 417D Laser Distance Meter: Made in Hungary (good) and appears to be up to the usual FLUKE high quality. The display is very bright and clear (grey/black characters on a white back-lit display). Defaults to IMPERIAL measurement however you can change it to METRIC (and it retains your setting across power ON/OFF). The retail pack I received also included 2x'AAA' batteries. Note also that the measurement can be 'one time' or 'continuous'. APA Nov 2020

Simple, compact tool.
This is a simple tool, no Bluetooth, and it only calculates square footage. The laser is bright, but still very hard to see in direct sunlight. My only complaint is that the base used for measuring is uneven. This will need a little sandpaper or file work, to be flat. I like that it measures in Imperial fractions, Imperial decimal, and metric, both I believe. The functionality is the value for me. I can replace several bulky tape measures.

Great Build Quality, but Minor Manufacturing Flaw
The Fulke 417D unit boasts top-notch build quality. However, the unit I received has a minor contamination within the casing, as shown in the picture. This gray imperfection is embedded in the material itself, rather than being on the surface. I believe it originated from the factory. I had to return the unit.
