It could be the prep.Lightly buff the nail,wipe clean then dehydrate the nails.Follow with base coat 2 coats of colour then top coat.Good luck.

Hi there sweetheart Dont worry the tool is so you can do a cats eye design. You first put the black polish when that has cured/dried, you coat the black in the coloured gel/polish get the tool and hover it over the nail leave for a few seconds then voila!!! You should have a line on the nail, i always describe it as having a galaxy on the nail, try to cure asap as the tiny little magnets soon dissipate back all over the nail. This looks a beautiful set of nails you will have fun workin with the magnet. I really hope this helps.
