Peak Design X Backpack

Quality and materials excellent
The bag was extremely well made with good materials however on arrival I realised that it wasn’t suitable for my photography needs which was a little disappointing as said previously the bag is excellent with many well thought out solutions to common issues the bag is side opening so you don’t need to remove the bag completely with a lot of internal pockets I know I returned the bag however it would be excellent for a travel bag or day bag unfortunately not for my needs for anything else except for photography I would have kept it top drawer bag

An okay backpack with some quirks
I want to be excited about all the features this backpack has but there are some annoying things:1. Sternum support: you have to lock it in one of the 3 preset positions and it's actually quite difficult to strap it on. I think design is just taking a sternum support 1 step back. Not my favourite.2. The top pocket with mag latch. Again, I think the tech here is just not making it easy to access the top pocket. When I pack for my holidays I always have to awkwardly hold the top pocket open with one hand as I try to shove my items in there with my other hand, otherwise the top pocket just closes automatically. Not a great design.3. On a similar note, I'm not really sold on the waterproofness of the backpack as the top pocket has overhangs that if I don't fold them in properly would literally get rained in.It's an alright backpack, but for the enormous price tag, I'd really expect good design rather than cool things that don't really work.

This looks amazing
But it's really not very comfortable. I will persist 🙃

Total failure as a camera bag. Form above function.
I’m seriously disappointed with this bag.It looks great, is very well made, and clearly has high quality materials throughout, including the zippers which were a weak point on the V1 of this bag.But it falls down badly in the key areas of usability and water resistance, so fails as being a camera bag.Because most of the access is from the sides, anything packed in the middle of the bag requires lots of unpacking to gain access. There are also very few external attachment points, and the recommended side-mounting point for a tripod totally blocks access to that side of the bag unless you first remove the tripod. Then there’s the top access flap: to achieve the claimed 30 litre carrying capacity, the flap need to be on the fourth (highest) magnetic latching point. But that then leaves a humungous great open gap on each side which is not merely very thief-friendly but is wide open to allow ingress of any precipitation. The mag-latch also has absolutely no means of allowing the owner to lock it, so contents inside the top of the bag are simply not safe at all.Sadly my example is being returned to Wex Photographic tomorrow. The ridiculously-named LowePro ProTactic 450AWii which I received from Amazon today is not merely much cheaper but is far more usable and more comfortable as a camera bag. I only wish LowePro used better quality zips.In short, the Peak Design Everyday 30L V.2 is a huge triumph of style over substance. Only their £600 carbon fibre travel tripod is even worse in that respect. If this bag was cheaper it would merit 2 stars. But at this price, with the grossly exaggerated carrying capacity, and with all the sponsored hype that Peak Design have pushed out online, I’m going to kick back with a solid 1 star.

Excellent design, high quality product
A brilliant camera bag, with a solution for every camera storage eventuality and plenty of innovative features. It's also very comfortable. Pricey, yes, but it delivers.

Brilliant everyday carry backpack
Look, I know the price is offputting. You can get really good bags for much less. I've had a few over the years. What you get for the money here is a combination of usability, adaptability, and clever design choices. Put it this way, the YouTube video from Peak Design showing you the features is about 30 minutes long.Usability features include one handed opening and closing on all sides. It opens on both sides so you can access your items. The internal dividers can be removed, or configured as you need. Gives you maximum adaptability to deal with different trips. You can find anything in there quickly without having to go digging. Or you can remove it for maximum carrying capacity. The laptop compartment is adjustable so even smaller laptops are easy to get in and out.Magnetically secured straps avoid them getting caught on things. Built in waist strap is great.Zips can be secured so they cannot easily be opened without your knowing.Overall, despite the cost I am happy that I bought it. If I look after it, it should be my main rucksack for years.
