Reliable fast WiFi around the whole house
After a pretty terrible experience with a Tenda mesh system (an app that didn't work), and cheap powerline systems, the TP Link Deco is miles ahead. I really wanted a simple plug and play system and was a bit apprehensive about using an app to set up and control everything but I'm glad I went with it as it's pretty damn great tbh! The setup procedure was simple to follow and units updated all via the app. I turned my Virgin hub into modem mode and let the Deco do it's thing. I have full fibre but not the highest speed package. The speed increase from the main unit alone (connected to the virgin router via ethernet) was twice as fast with a solid 290 Mbps downstairs of a 4 bedroom house. I have the two other Decos upstairs which run about 100 Mbps. Complete house coverage and also the garden with no dropouts. Anything outside the lounge with the Virgin router and the speed and reliability would drop like a stone so the Deco is a game changer in our house. We can stream 4K downstairs while the kids can game and listen to music with no complaints. The app is really good too. I can set up profiles and all devices to different ppl and set up bedtimes/internet access for each child and outrite block WiFi if I need too and any device on the network. You can get right into the settings and prioritize devices etc.. but I'm not that technical. It seems to do everything we need it to without changing much. You can set up a guest network so your not giving out passwords for the main one and the app will tell you when new devices try and connect. Very happy we got this and really good value.

This is super easy to set up and works extremely well
I love good wifi and I have a difficult house to cover. I've tried so many things. What I want to achieve is this, in priority order:1. Wifi everywhere, same name (SSID) so phone doesn't have to switch wifi2. Good handover ("roaming") when moving from one room to another, even on a video call, to not gap too much.3. Decent speed everywhereI first tried the TP link M5. It does a good job but it struggles with walls and isolation in walls.I then tried the Ubiquiti range (which I love), but it needs cabling to work well. (But when it has this, nothing beats it)I am not getting rid of my ubiquiti kit but I supplemented with the TP LINK P9. I feed both from the main router and so have two independant wifis in the house. And the TP LINK P9 is VERY VERY good. It achieves all the points 1-3 above and is set up in 5 minutes. All my rooms are covered in spite of the wall insulation because the P9 does the powerline backhaul. I complement with a couple M5s. Amazing wifi everywhere. The units create a very good mesh, a very nice roaming, handover gaps are very comparable to my ubiquiti kit. Frankly connecting to the TP LINK is faster than to unifi, which is saying something, for a £200 kit versus £2000 unifi setup. So very very highly recommended this one. Here is what it does NOT do, which is why I am keeping my unifi kit, and want to cable my house ultimately: It does NOT give you multiple VLANs and multiple Wifi networks routed to different switch ports, say if you want a VPN on one wifi and flat internet access on the other. In short this P9 is amazing for the price

WiFi Mesh with Powerline Backhaul
I purchased the TP-Link Deco PX50 to replace an existing WiFi mesh system that used a combination of WiFi and wired ethernet for backhaul connections between the nodes. Installing ethernet wires between nodes is difficult in an old house and WiFi connections between nodes are difficult with thicker old walls and limits where nodes can be positioned. The combination of a WiFi Mesh system with the option for Powerline backhaul connections between nodes seemed a good innovation and I haven’t found any other WiFi mesh systems that include this feature. Hence my reasons for buying the Deco PX50.Before installing the system I read some of the other posts and TP-Link support information about problems folk had experienced getting the Powerline backhaul working so I was prepared to encounter some problems. Out-of-the-box, the installation process for the PX50 is straightforward. The Deco smartphone app is well designed and works well. On initial set-up I managed to get all the nodes working with WiFi backhaul and for the nodes to complete their Firmware updates. However, I was unable to get a Powerline backhaul connection between the master and slave node working that I needed.TP-Link Support provided helpful advice and after performing a hardware reset on each node, and repeating the installation process, the Powerline connectivity worked fine.My initial experience of Deco system has been good. For my setup, in practice, the speed of Powerline backhaul connectivity appears every bit as good as WiFi connectivity between nodes. I’ve now good WiFi connectivity throughout my house and no more ethernet cables trailing between nodes. The build quality of the Deco units is good and the app provides useful information and includes a helpful feature for turning off the Deco unit status Leds at night if your nodes are installed somewhere you want to keep dark at night.I’m happy to recommend the Deco PX50 to other folk looking for a WiFi mesh system for a larger house. I’m knocking off 1 star because of the problem getting Powerline backhaul working but I’m assuming this problem will be fixed in a future Firmware update.
