Excellent refrigerator, unstable base
I have had Engel fridges for 20 years and they are both a 5 start plus. Customer service is second to none. As a matter of fact they just rebuild one of mine, which was amazing that they still service something that old. They are bulletproof and the best quality money can buy, however, this one topples over if you do not strap it down somehow. It has a very high center of gravity and the base for some reason is narrower than the top. Buy it but be advised of this very odd design

As advertised
We purchased this unit over five years ago for our small motorhome. We were tired of our absorption fridge not cooling in warm weather and refuse to drive with the propane on. This fridge has done an incredible job for us...will freeze food if we allow it to but will keep food consistently at 28 to 35 degrees even in 100 plus temperatures. Draws less than 2 amps when the compressor is running and is ideal for our boondocking adventures. Contrary to another review, the noise level when the Engel is running is barely noticeable. There have been no drawbacks to owning this unit...the fact that we can operate it on 12 volt is convienent while driving, but we run it mostly on 110 volt when plugged in to pedestal or when boondocking will use our 1800 watt inverter. Great product!

Noisy, vibrations and 20% restocking fee on return from Boat and RV Accessories
Judging by the product description, you'd think it's the best portable refrigerator ever. It may very well be the case, but others must be even noisier, and vibrate even more. I'd rather be without a fridge than waking up at night from the noise.

This portable fridge keeps its cool.
I bought this fridge to replace my old Engel fridge that gave up the ghost after more than ten years of excellent service. The new fridge uses slightly less power than the model it replaced—a model MT25. It has the same exterior and interior dimensions, so it fits the existing rack I had made for it. The zipper cover also fits the old and new fridges. The new fridge has a long basket that goes all the way to the bottom. It is easy to lift the basket out to clean the fridge. The fridge may be used without the basket if desired. The older fridge had a half basket with a fold-down shelf; that basket will fit in the new fridge as well. The new fridge arrived missing three small plastic blocks and screws that hold the inside coil in place. I took the blocks and screws from the old fridge and put them on the new one, and they fit perfectly. I never found out why the blocks were missing from the new fridge. The lid is not removable from the new fridge; the lid could be detached from the old fridge. That is a mixed benefit. One minor gripe: On the new fridge, the thermostat knob is too easy to move accidentally. On the old fridge, the knob was recessed into the top somewhat. Be careful not to turn the knob past mark 2, lest everything in it freezes.

You get what you pay for
It's an Engel. If you know what these are I don't need to tell you. Amazing piece of machinery. Keeping my stuff cold in a closed vehicle when it's 115° outside and barely using any battery power

I think they may be changing their distribution channels Engel refrig units are all very well made and do a fine job on my boat
do some research before buying this unit. It is smaller than others that draw the same amperage and it is not that much cheaper, especially if you go right to the mfg site. I think they may be changingtheir distribution channelsEngel refrig units are all very well made and do a fine job on my boat, just be sure you select the right unit and get it at the right price before you jump in on this.

Lives up to great reputation
We bought this to use as an extra freezer on a 2 month sailing trip around the Channel Islands. It is really all it promises. Low power usage, makes ice in a couple of hours, very quiet and very sturdy. We want one for our RV to keep food cold in transit and room for extra drinks at destination

Good freezer, poor shipping
This freezer is a great product. Unfortunately, it was damaged during shipping, and we had to return it.
