Q: Hi, is this resin heat resistant and suitable to make coasters? thanks.

Glasscast 3 for coating or Glasscast 10 for molds either have same heat resistance and a freshly made hot mug would leave a ring mark on the coaster, so not ideal for really hot coffee cups unfortunately

Q: What would the 5kg kit cover in sqm? Also would this be suitable for work surfaces?

GlassCast 3 is ideal for coating surfaces, 1mm thickness = 1kg per sq meter for example if you want 5mm thickness it would need 5kg for the same area. There is a table on the website which maybe helpful

Q: How deep can you pour this resin ?

GlassCast 50 is a water-clear, UV resistant epoxy casting resin developed specifically to meet the demands of thick section casting. Its slow-curing formulation allows it to be poured in depths of up to 50mm (25mm into wood) per layer without overheating. It has been formulated as a casting resin and not a coating resin meaning that it is water-clear even in very thick section. It doesn't, however, self-level to quite the perfectly flat, glossy finish of our GlassCast 3 coating resin and usually requires a flat and polish if a perfect finish is required on the open face. Q: Can you tell me the volume of a 5kg kit please?

Hi, It depends what you are using it for. Rule of thumb required is 1mm thick = 1kg per sqm. For solid surfaces, it’s easy to calculate the amount of resin you’ll need to cover a given area. For uneven surfaces or those including embedments like pennies, crushed glass or bottle tops; some compensation will be required. For a project 250cm length x 200cm width and 1mm thick its a total area of 50000cm2 which would use 5kg of resin for example. Many thanks, 1kg = 1mm over 1sqm You will require 1 kilo of resin per millimetre of thickness required over a 1 sqm area. Therefore, to calculate how much resin to mix, simply multiply the thickness you require (in millimetres) by the area of your surface (in square metres). Don’t forget that porous (absorbent) materials like wood should be sealed before the main pour. Typically for a grouted penny floor we would recommend 2mm thickness over the pennies which equates to 2kg per square meter. Other projects the depth may vary.

Wasted my money

I'm so disappointed. I did a floating rose, which used most of the resin (in layers) I saw hardly any bubbles during the process, but when I demoulded it, there are loads! It states that it is degassing and I used a hot air gun for the few I saw? Also every layer has a line, and I stuck to the proper procedure to not get them. I've wasted £100 on this!
