These hatches worked great on my old Jon boat restoration. Easy to install and seem to be plenty sturdy. I can stand on them. I used two different sizes as shown. I chose white so they don’t absorb heat from the sun.

Installed this hatch about a year ago. Still water tight, has not yellowed!

You will need 8 self tapping screws. and a good sealant if you want it waTer tight. The latches are good and it installs easily if you cab use a drill a screwdriver, a Sawzall and a rasp.

I have and older boat that the OEM installed Tempress slam hatches. These all started leaking and I also needed a bigger opening for the battery access. I purchased one 12" x 17" and liked it so well, I bought another for the port side. This size has two cam latches. This hatch is designed so water has to puddle on the hull, go under the cover, up over a plastic ridge that is sealed to the cover with a gasket. This design is as good as any I have seen for a watertight seal. I have seen too many hatches where the cover does not cover the frame or bolt holes, so water will puddle between the cover and frame, and relies on a gasket that the cover only rests on. These will eventually leak. The size I purchased initially appears to have enough structural support molded into the cover to withstand foot traffic.I will update my review after a season.Update - I took a star off of my rating a year later. The hatches are watertight and can be walked on. My boat was in the water 7 months last year. Prepping the boat to go in this year, I saw the tops had really yellowed compared to the lip that was not exposed to the sun (see photo).

I just install the hatch today, open the hatch to put items away and one of the two latches was broken. I purchased four hatches, hope the others hold up better. Another latch broke on another hatch. Looked at other makes and they all look like they are made the same way except for one and it was not the same size that I had or I would switch to them.

I mounted this hatch in the center bench seat of a 12 ft Jon Boat to house a 31 series deep cycle battery.The hinges are a little stiff but, it does'nt affect the functionality of the hatch. A gasket would have been a nice added feature, you can use weather stripping or bead of silicone under the flange before screwing it into place. I ran two beads of silicone and let it cure overnight before completely sealing the unit. I painted it with a Rustoleum flat color based paint suitable for plastics, be sure to clean it good with alcohol or white vinegar to remove grease. " Take your time cutting away the material and you will appreciate the final results...for me no more clutter or exposed wiring.

Finally got it installed and it only lasted 3 months before both the handles broke. Now trying to see if I can even get replacement latches.

Very well made and perfect size to use as a hatch for my 27 size boat battery. Needed angle grinder to cut the hole but it was easy. Just take it slow and measure carefully. Apply marine sealant to make it waterproof.
