Q: Is it dishwasher safe?

I wouldn't put it in the Dishwasher. I never put Knives or utensils that have moving parts as the dishwasher is like a sand blaster in my opinion and it will dull knives and damage the moving parts of your utensils.

Q: Can this be used for ice cream? Or should it be? : )

NO! Get a metal scoop. Use these for soft items. This is a food service portion control device. Look at the handle! It's plastic! It will break under pressure trying to scoop hard frozen ice-cream. It'll snap the top right off. This works great for Jumbo muffins btw. I use the black for cookies and blue for cupcakes.

I use an ice cream scoop for ice cream. I soak it in hot water first and it glides through. Scoop size is up to you.
