Colonel Ichabod Conk Pure Badger Hair Shave Brush

I purchased this brush because I was looking for a good quality long handled shaving brush that would be easier to use than the short handled versions. This brush has a larger brush head with longer Badger bristles. This larger brush head allows for thicker lather, and the long handle allows for the brush to reach the bottom of my soap bowl and the larger brush holds more lather. All in all, this is an excellent brush that is built to last. I have seen some ratings that complain about bristle fall out. All bristle brushes will loose some bristles over time, as does this one, but after some short time the few loose bristles are gone and the brush is none the worse for it. This is a very attractive old fashioned brush that I am proud to own. If you want a fine old fashioned barbers brush that produces a great thick lather, this is the brush for you. Don't forget to soak the brush in hot water and let some of the water drip onto your soap to soften the soap. This will help form that thick lather we all want.

I have a shorter, stiffer boar bristle shaving brush that I've had for a few decades - decided I wanted to give this longer, "leaner" version a try. Really like it now that I'm used to it - like the feel and balance. Softer, longer bristles call for a different swirling/frothing technique than the one with shorter stiffer bristles and a squat handle.Hold the end of the handle and do a "whipping" motion with bristle tips on the soap puck in your mug.Like whipping eggs with a wire whisk. You can get soap foam nearly as fluffy as from an aerosol can of Barbasol - and a whole lot cheaper per shave.

This brush handles well and whips a great lather with most shave soaps. I soak it in hot water for a couple minutes before use and drain it before making lather. The bristles are gentle on my face when lathering up for a straight razor shave. I like the style because I am able to use a semi-hard soap puck at the bottom of an antique deep shaving mug or old china coffee mug. I also like that it is a fairly large brush knot but does not soak up all the lather.The secret to using a soap puck is to put a little hot water on it a few minutes before use and that softens the surface. That allows the brush to pick up a softer soap which lathers better. That also extends the life of the brush.I have purchased and used the boar bristle version of this brush and liked it. This brush with the higher quality bristles is not really a new experience but a very pleasant improvement in the quality of my wet shaving.

This brush is great for making lather. You can get down deep and not get your hand into the soap.Maybe Amazon will post this review because I gave it a good one. I've noticed if you don't give a good review then it doesn't meet their guidelines. It's kinda hard to tell other shoppers the truth if they won't let you. But this is a good shave brush. UPDATE THIS BRUSH IS FALLING APART NOW. DON'T BUY IT!!!!! Okay, I bought another one and did just what the maker told me to do. I have used the new one for about 3 months and it is falling apart just like the first one did. So it wasn't something I was doing wrong it's just a bad product. DON'T BUY THIS BRUSH!!! However, it does make a great computer keyboard dusting brush maybe they should rename it and try again in the dusting business.

I've used badger bristles for years, most people don't know that these animals have a scent. It is stronger when it's wet so if your wife notices don't panic it happens. Outside of that this is a great brush. You will lose a few bristles but I haven't owned one that didn't. Buy with confidence! I would definitely buy again!! I also love the longer handle I feel like I have more control when whipping up the lather as well as distribution of the lather.

I don't usually leave a product review but this is such a good product I thought I would like for others to know about it. This will be the last wet shave brush you will ever need. The handle is long enough to get hold of and the bristles are wonderful. It brings the soap up into a lather very easily and spreads on your face even easier. I love it!

Quality is excellent, disappointed in the performance. it has two flaws one major one minor both can be overcome. First and foremost the bristles are way too soft. After soaping up the brush they lack the stiffness to work up a lather and lift the stubble. The bristles just splay our like a wet mop. I used a ponytail holder from my wife to wrap the bristles about halfway down. Now they stay together work up a lather as a shaving brush should. This is one of the very few long handle shaving available, the primary reason I bought this one, enough handle to grab hold of. The minor flaw is the rounded end of the handle does not allow you the stand it on the handle when setting it down. A quick trip to the workshop fixes this with a saw or sander. After a couple modifications it becomes a very excellent shaving brush on a par the old Barbershop Brand no longer being made.

I have to admit that I'm not exactly sure why I bought this brush, except that my old brush broke and I needed a new one, fast. Having used several brushes now, this one isn't very good. The bristles are a still too stiff, which may (I hope) simply be indicative of a new brush. It's hard to get a good lather right now too, but like the stiff bristles, this may change with time. I like the longer handle, as my hands are large, but it will take some time to get used to it. Bottom line, you get what you pay for, and I didn't pay much for this.
