Great for ESL students that are native Arabic speakers
I'm a Librarian at an ESL Academic Library. We have a large set of these dictionaries for our students. We also have the similar Oxford dictionaries in other languages. We have students that range from having barely any English speaking capabilities to those that are preparing for study at an American University and are testing at a high fluency. The speakers of Arabic that are early English learners find this dictionary the most useful and in some cases is the only book that I recommend in our collection until they obtain a higher level of fluency from the course material.I would highly recommend this book to students of English. In addition English speakers learning Arabic could use this book but there is a little bit less utility for those students and there are a few other choices out there.

The second edition is much better than the third edition of this book
This series of picture dictionaries is great. The second edition includes a wonderful index in the back that shows how to pronounce the words in the dictionary -- this is needed because many English words are not pronounced the way they look. The third edition does not include this index, which I think is a very unfortunate omission.

A must-buy for Arabic-speaking English language learners
Lovely book, great for practicing practical vocabulary and spelling. Suited for the Arabic speaker. Pictures allow for an understanding of the translation if one is not used to certain forms of the Arabic word, if speaking in dialect for example. Came in perfect quality and well packaged.

great for ESL, not so much for learning Arabic
I am a volunteer ESL/ABE tutor at a local library and this book is great for explaining words that would be hard to translate without a picture. For example, my student, a native Arabic speaker, was reading a passage on the first Thanksgiving and they didn't know what green beans were. All I had to do was open this book to the appropriate page and there was a picture with green beans and the words in both English and Arabic. It covers everything from family to food to places around town and more. They also sell workbooks to go with the Oxford Picture Dictionaries that are great, too. One downfall is that there are no Arabic pronounciations so it's not good if you're trying to learn Arabic. Overall though, a great book for the price and purpose.

Great book and pictures
I gave this to a family of Iraqi refugees to learn English. It was very helpful to them and myself as we struggled through the language barrier

Good buy for speakers of Arabic
I teach English to students whose first language is Arabic and they love this book. The organisation by topic and the use of pitures helps them acquire voabualryu. They ask me to buy it for them and bring it to class. It really helps them develop vocabulary and explain words easily.
