.com You haven't heard Queen's greatest hits until you've experienced them in surround sound on Greatest Video Hits 1. Disc 1 includes 16 of Queen's most popular singles, restored and remixed in 5.1-channel Dolby Digital and DTS, and the results are nothing less than spectacular. Reformatted for widescreen TVs, Queen's early videos are visually basic (typically combining lip-synched band footage with concert performance clips), but they effectively chronicle the group's musical and stylistic evolution, and "Bicycle Race" includes previously unseen footage of an all-nude female bicycle race! (Optional commentary is provided for all videos by guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, with archival quotes from the late Freddie Mercury and bassist John Deacon.) Disc 2, while not remixed, features six excellent videos (including the previously unseen "Liar"), and a hidden, alternate-edit video of "Bohemian Rhapsody" originally seen on Britain's Top of the Pops (and accessible by entering "Title 10, Chapter 1" on your DVD remote). "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the obvious highlight of both discs, and its history (both audio and video) is thoroughly explored, including May's fascinating deconstruction of the song's original studio recording tracks. Mandatory viewing for Queen fans, Video Hits 1 will leave you begging for Video Hits 2. --Jeff Shannon

The Best of Queen
This video previews Queen at their best. No other video such as the Bohemian Rhapsody can compare to the genius creations of Freddie Mercury. The band shines in these videos. For the diehard fans this isa treat to see the earlier videos. This band didn't need special effects or anything just the operatic voice of Freddie keeps you asking for more.Be sure to see the Special Feature with the creative writings of Freddie when he composed the BOHEMIAN Rhapsody.A very in-depth detailed description of the dubbed tracks of this video that was created as an advertising tool for Queen to be seen on the POPS. Never before used prism video shots were used in this video. This is a must have video for die hard fans. If you are the pre MTV rock fans these videos will not disappoint you. Don't expect the glam this is truly the soul collection of the best of Queens hits. I am very happy with seeing the showman Freddie Mercury as he was.RIP Freddie Mercury but your music lives on with Queen the band John Deacon and Brian May. Rock on!!! Queen Rules!!

Legendary
Queen is a true legendary group in the history of rock and roll. Freddy Mercury is a great showman, Brian May is a genius at the guitar, Roger Taylor is awesome on the drums, John Deacon is a great bass player. Together, they made Rock and Roll history. It is unfortunate that they let the opinions of MTV affect their decision not to return to the states. They had lots of fans that remained loyal, even when they did not come back to perform. The audio tracks are great. The extras on the making of Bohemian Rhapsody are fantastic. I wish John Deacon also gave them interviews. Freddy Mercury was an absolute genious. How they created their music is absolutely marvelous. Having videos like this available for legendary groups is a great benefit of growing up in the MTV generation. I particularly enjoyed the Bicycle Race video.

Queen Greatest Video Hits Volume 1
Queen broke all music barriers in the use of electronic equipment and unique sound before any other band. The closest band to even come close to Queen would be Rush or Peter Frampton. For Queen Fans young and old this is a must have DVD. Very great quality and sound, and dubbing can't be matched. Freddie Mercury's voice can;t be matched and with Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon's voices combined is remarkable. It was a blessing that all four members met though were part of different groups. Freddie will be surly missed. Long Live QUEEN!!!

Can't see why they would want to "widescreen" it
Ok, listen. I am one of the biggest Queen fans around. I've waited patiently for EMI/Hollywood to put out a DVD compilation of all of Queen's videos. Imagine my delight when I learned of a "DVD Collection" to be released. And "Greastest Video Hits Volume 1" just sounded like the perfect start to this collection. (sigh!) Ooh boy. I have to say I wasn't completely satisfied when I recieved it in the mail yesterday. Sure, I wasn't expecting the video remastering to be Criterion quality (most of those videos were filmed in the 70's, after all) but why the widescreen? I mean, Queen's videos were filmed on full-screen. Was there really a need to make them "trendy"? Look, I am a firm believer that if something was film in widescreen, one should buy the widescreen DVD. But this really wasn't needed. Some of the image is taken away from the top and bottom of the screen all the way through. It's plainly obvious when viewing the openning video "Bohemian Rhapsody". Also, some of the videos have been replaced with "rarer" stuff (the charming original video for Bicycle Race with all the pop-culture bits like Darth Vader 'n stuff has been replaced by a stage performance/nude race one, for example). It's a shame because it's otherwise an excellent DVD. The sound is awesome and the extras (especially the Brian May-in-the-studio thing - is he really getting misty-eyed listening to the original tracks?) are priceless. I would highly recommend this DVD for die-hard fans like me, though. It's worth it for the extras and the sound. And just the overall packaging. Great booklet and cover. Thanks anyway, EMI/Hollywood. You guys get an "A" for effort. One can just hope for slightly better with future volumes of the collection. :)

THE BEST PART OF THIS DVD ARE THE SPECIAL FEATURES.
I prefer watching QUEEN in concert. The videos are primarily staged, which is OK. Hearing and seeing the early music is GREAT and the sound is VERY GOOD. Disc 2 was the BEST. It has a lengthy piece with BRIAN MAY using the ORIGINAL TAPE of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY and detailing how it was first conceived (by FREDDY MERCURY) and the process and construction of the song. IT IS SO VERY INTERESTING. Full illustration of the GENIUS of FREDDY MERCUERY. A MUST FOR QUEEN FANS.
