It doesn't look like the picture and there's no return. It's less than 1-inch wide but 2-inches long (the black portion). Who in the world needs a 2-inch long binder clip for documents? Maybe, to close a bag of snacks after the world depletes its supply of twist ties.

I would say about 2 inches, they are very tight, you have to have a good grip to open them up!
