Bought for a moderate player
These books are great for a beginning to moderate learner. Was purchased for my daughter who has been taking lessons for three years and is working her way through the books.

Exactly what I expected
First be aware that the books have intended age ranges and usage models. The usage model is that their are 5 sets of 12 exercises in each book with the intention that you warm up with one set each day before practising. The book also suggests learning a couple of exercises per week to facilitate this. That's to say you gradually gain the ability to execute all exercises as you learn. With this learning rate in mind the first (aka mini) book is aimed at early elementary school age, the second (preparatory) is aimed at mid elementary school and the third (aka book one) is late elementary school. Books two and three might fit into middle school with the fourth suited to more advanced students in that age range. What does this mean for an adult? As an adult beginner (about 3 months self study), albeit a fairly fast learner, I found I could sight read/play 90% of the exercises in "book one" (the third in the series), first try, using a metronome at 120 bpm. That's to say I'd expect the mini and preparatory books to be of very limited use to any adult except an absolute beginner. Also note that these books do not explain how to read sheet music or anything about the notation so if you are an absolute beginner you'll need to learn what the notation means before you can begin. Presumably when used in school a teacher might demonstrate as part of explaining how music is read. That being said the exercises are fun and, if you try and play them transposed into different keys on the fly, you can get some challenge, even out of the simple ones. Also remember that there are six books in total and the latter three are beyond my (very limited) first try sight reading ability.I suspect that for a dedicated adult with over 6 months experience getting the whole set is probably not that worthwhile as the first 3 books will prove too easy (though buying the latter 2 or 3 individually might be entertaining). For a complete beginner adult (with elementary familiarity with musical notation) or a beginner child that's making relatively slow progress this is probably a good set. The exercises are also fairly musical which I consider a big plus over some other considerably more dry exercises.
