I just wish I had read this first
I read the manga and I loved it, the story and the drawings captivated me. The I saw the anime, same thing as before. Then I got hold of the book, nd I wish I had done it backwards. I can imagine the suspence and the guessings of people who read this story for the first time, and yet... it was still so different, less dramatic, more to the point, to what is important. I loved it, even if I knew how it would end I got hooked and then, the setting was the same but the events were different, so you had to imagine, at times, something entirelly different to what you saw, If it's your first time reading the story it would be so much fun, but even for someone like me, who thought I would get bored at times, know what came next, it's still so much fun. I think it's a great book, with great adaptations, but the novel itself, the source of it all, is a must read to every fan of Another, and a perfect choice to anyone inerested in this kind of stories.

I wish people discovered the book before the anime
***Pretty much the same review for part one since both books should have been released in one binding***Lately Japan has been drawing a lot more from novels for anime adaptations and Another is, well, another case of that. The story is interesting in that it first appears as a traditional curse story, but eventually pans out into more of a detective novel. If I had to make comparisons, it would be like a mix of the sixth sense and final destination--in a good way. I have a couple issues with the translation, but I suppose sacrifices to the writing style had to be made in order to appeal to those not aware of Japanese culture. It's not noticeable unless you know what to look for. My only gripe is that the book was divided into two parts. That said, the first part does start off a little slow, but it really picks up by vol 2. It's a good read and I highly recommend picking it up.

Excellent
This mystery story excels where many others falter--the deep uneasiness of the atmosphere. I would place the novel as better than the anime or manga, unsurprisingly, and a must read for fans of those. I am eagerly awaiting his next installment in Yomi North, I just hope I can wait that long. I'd also like to praise the translation, only a very few parts had the awkward literal-ness that many Japanese to English works have. Overall, I am 100% satisfied, and it will be a long time before I get this mystery out of my head.

Volume 2
Having read both volumes, the book as a whole is an incredibly well told story and by the second volume becomes a page turner that the reader can't put down. The suspense that the first part builds on, overflows in the pages of this volume. The reader is sucked in as the mystery of Mei Misaki and her "blue eye empty to all" unfolds along with the phenomenon that haunts North Yomi Highschool. The characters themselves are incredibly believable, even as they do things that don't seem to make much sense until later on in the story when the author describes their motivations. There was great a chemistry between Mei and Sakikabara that starts boiling from the moment he meet in volume 1.Having seen the anime and live-action movie(Which is nigh unwatchable) I can say that I am grateful that hatchet press brought over the source material. Yukito Ayatsuji weaves an exciting tale of supernatural mystery and suspense that truly draws you in and makes you want to keep digging into the frightening world of Yomiyama, if for no other reason than to find out who is the causality? And how can the madness be stopped?Volume 2 is a five-star page turner that kept me reading until the very end. I would suggest this book to anyone who is a fan of mystery books and/or classic Stephen King-style horror novels. It plays out very much like Salem's Lot, a slow burn of a story that explodes into full-on insanity about half-way through the book.

Fantastic Suspense
Part 2 concludes the story launched by the anime and part 1. This book is far less gorey and over the top (no beach death for example) however the ones here remain interesting and eerie in how they could rely happen anywhere. At times it almost feels like this could even be a real story with how its told, the inconsistencies, and just how its handled. Sakakibara is strong and surrounded by a great cast like Teshigawara that made it quite a blast to read. It was definitely worthwhile and the included critique and afterward were nice touches.

Enjoyable
I read the manga first and have wanted to see the anime, but decided to read the two novels prior since I do that with other books that come before tv/movies. This series was creepy, but at the same time difficult to put down. I'd recommend this set to anyone who likes supernatural/thriller-type stories. Lots of twists and turns, as well as decent character development.

Half right
Damn, I half guessed the ending. Another should have and could have been one book and there is some drag here, but still a nicely told story with a dramatic and satisfying finale. Are there some plot holes and conveniences? Well of course there are, but you won't care. Love the two leads and hope he brings back Mei and Sakakibara and at least lets them kiss.

Better than the anime
I watched the anime of another a year before reading the manga and I disliked it greatly, however when I found out there was a light novel I jumped for joy. This book is amazing so much more detail is put in and so many things change for the better. I highly recommend reading if you are a horror lover like myself «««««·°*·`°*·`°*·°/`*·°`(>^<)·°*`·°*`°·\`°·*°·`»»»»»
