Suzuka Volume 1 is Here
Yamato Akitsuki moves into his aunt's women's public bathhouse and dorms in order to attend highschool. There, he becomes acquainted with the tenants living there and befriends Suzuka Asahina, a high jumper, his classmate and falls in love at first sight. Yamato is then reacquainted with middle school friend, Yasunobu Hattori. This story is very realistic and is a very mix type of story of drama, romance, and comedy.

Did you like Love Hina, but wish it were less hyperactive?
If you read Love Hina, but wish it were a little more realistic, Suzuka is for you.It liberally rips off that series. The main character lives in an all-woman's bathhouse owned by family. Suzuka is Naru, but instead of being a brain she is a star athlete. She's still a tsundere, though. There's a Kitsune clone who is loud, brassy, likes to drink and is into money. They even reuse the same gag Kitsune pulled on Keitaro. There's even the same hole that connects rooms, just in the wall instead of the ceiling. The little sister fits the Shinobu role. There's a lot of the same misunderstandings and "oops i saw her naked/groped her" in the manga, but its much less cartoony and less frequent. The differences are mostly in that while Love Hina is almost like a saturday morning cartoon in how slapstick and absurd it is, Suzuka is more slice of life. There's no Tama-chan the flying turtle, and the main character isn't sent rocketing to the moon by a punch when something goes wrong. The characters have more realistic needs, fears, and resentments, and react more like normal people do.However its still very close to Love Hina to have troubles standing on its own. The ending of the first book even introduces a similar rivalry between love interests. It's not bad, but its still manages to feel derivative from all the borrowing.

Funny and beautifully drawn.
I read a lot of reviews online before reading this volume. The general consensus was that it's a great read, which it is, but that Sazuka is a huge bitch, which she isnt. Reading this volume you see that she's going through a lot. New school and the pressure of being a scouted athlete. She feels a lot of pressure and doesn't want to let anyone down. Not only that but she didn't want to leave her home and move to the city. She clearly likes Yamato but doesn't want to admit it. The series has a lot of fan service and the typical situations that come along with it. But it didn't take away from the story in my opinion. It was really funny. All the characters have chemistry and the artwork is amazing. Each page is gorgeous. I really like the style. Pleade, do yourself a favour and ignore the negative reviews and read the series.
