Great, even for the not so dumb beginner (at least I think I am !).
A very accessible book (which it is intended to be).It certainly helped me to brush up on the basics and restart an albeit difficult apprenticeship (after more than 50 years) - of one of the most difficult instruments to master (but all the more satisfying if you can !)Helped even more by the availability of MP3 tracks and video although the video interface could be much improved but that's being picky.Wish it had been about 50 years ago, perhaps I wouldn't have stopped after a not very inspiring beginning. There are, of course, some areas that could perhaps be improved on eg reading music and musical notation but judging by weight, it is already in the heavyweight category (not a pocketbook !)

Good introduction to the violin
I bought this for my adult son, who is too busy to begin lessons, but who has expressed an interest in learning the instrument. The book seems to cover all the bases. Holding the instrument, bow hold, scales etc. As with all the 'Dummies' books, the layout is clear, and the content well thought-out. Also includes a CD, though I didn't get the chance to listen to this before passing the book on. For most people, and particularly for children, some lessons are a good idea, but for the habitual auto-didact this book is a good starter. Nowadays, you can supplement your learning by finding clips on YouTube, so self-tuition is much more practical than it once was.

not for proper dummies
I don't think I am particularly thick but there were many parts I could not follow. I think without any prior knowledge many people would need to back it up with other teaching methods.

The Easiest and Best Book for Beginners
Purchased a couple of online courses - absolutely useless. This book actually got me playing the violin to a point that people could recognise what I was playing for a 40 something beginner
