Gerber Edict Tanto Fine Edge, Black

I have several Gerber products. Some of my favorite knives are Gerber. So, I really wanted this knife to work. (yes...I oiled it) It is sturdy I’ll say that. The blade is great and sharp. The only problem is getting the darn thing open. You need to be an iron worker to open it with your thumb. If you want a nice knife you have to open with two hands this will do you well. Oh...by the way. you can get a Kershaw that opens just fine at half the price. $60 bucks for I knife I can’t use very well is way too much. I would have returned it but I read the fine print...they will take a fee for opened products. Ok...how do I check it without opening it? I kept it rather than giving up 50% of the cost to send it back. Lesson learned.OK...to give credit where due I have to say I have come to really like this knife. Yes...it is/was hard to open one handed but since I did not return it I kept it on my desk. Everytime I looked at it I would snap it open. I finally figured out to use the meat of your thumb instead of the tip. It snaps open nicely now after a few hundred snaps!

I saw a lot of reviews online that rated this knife as being "so-so". I also saw some reviews that said this knife had some up and down blade play. So far I think that this is a great knife and I am really surprised at how well it was made. I am not able to notice any blade play in this knife. It is a lock back which they do tend to develop some slight play after a while. However, it is usually not enough to be an issue. The knife fits really well in my hand and it feels really comfortable to me. This knife fits really well in the pocket and is really light for its size. The only "con" I have about this knife is that it was not 3.75 inches. That could be a good thing for some but I was looking for a knife to fill a certain role. However, that is nitpicking. The label on the packaging states that the knife is 3.6 inches long, which is close enough to fill the role I needed (more like wanted) this knife for. This knife came really sharp out of the box and seems to hold an edge quite well. All in all, Gerber USA (meaning US made) makes some great knives and I would recommend this one to anyone that needs, wants or is able to carry a knife of this size. Oh, and one last note. This knife looks really cool as well. Although be careful where you whip this out at because it screams tactical (which means scary to some).

Great knife for the money. It is hard to beat 154CM steel for a blade without spending a lot of money. This knife holds well, and the handle is rubberized which helps when it is wet. The only reason I give it a four is that the locking mechanism locks with a very loud click, unless you use two hands and open it slowly, as well as requiring two hands to close it. I would not suggest this knife for a personal protection back-up due to these reasons, but it is otherwise a great quality knife for the money.

This was my very first pocket knife that got me into the knife collecting hobby.The lock back mechanism offers ZERO blade play.The pure straight edge is super sharp out of the box and retains it's edge with regular use.Opening it one handed might not be possible / easy for those with smaller to medium size hands.For me it takes two strokes to one handed open the blade, you can't flick it open due to the resistance.The build quality / materials offer zero slip, even the positioning of the clip works well as a grip enhancement

This is by far the best folding knife I have owned, the blade stays sharp even after cutting hard material.

Great knife, I have one for work and one for day to day.

DECENT LARGE TANTO BLADED FOLDING POCKET KNIFE……THE HANDLE IS TEXTURED BUT I FIND IT TOO THIN TO GRIP….NOT FOR A PERSON WITH LARGE HANDS.

An American made tactical knife with CM 154 blade steel? At this price? It has a ceramic coating on the blade edge, a very grippable handle and a deep chill in the handle to protect your fingers? WOW

Das Messer wurde ohne Umverpackung lose in einem größeren Packpaket zusammen mit 2 anderen -ebenfalls lose herumliegenden- Messern zugestellt. Diese Art der Lieferung ohne jeden Schutz bzw Umhüllung des Messers im Sendepaket empfand ich als etwas lieblos.Das Messer selbst ist eine Wucht ! Selbst wenn man nicht in den Urwald oder in die Wüste muß oder es sonstwie zum Überleben braucht fasst sich dieses ungewöhnliche Klapptaschenmesser sofort gut an. Die geriffelte ,sehr rutschsichere Gummierung des Griffes, die schwarze Klinge mit abgewinkelter Spitze wirken fast bedrohlich professionell. Das Auf-und Zuklappen geht über einen Widerstand bei halber Öffnung, ein Sicherheitsmerkmal. Das Öffnen und Schließen des Messers gelingt geschmeidig und ohne erhöhten Kraftaufwand,die Klinge sitzt genau mittig und fest. Neben dem schlanken Design hat das Messer eine ausgewogene Handlage und ist erstaunlich leicht, wirkt kompakt und stabil. Trotz der schutzarmen Zusendung(siehe oben) war das Messer bei Ankunft in einwandfreiem Zustand und ohne erkennbare frühere Nutzung .Die Klinge ist scharf.Der Preis erscheint mir unter Wertung der genannten Umstände und der Stahlqualität der Klinge (145 Chrom-Mangan) tolerabel.Im Herstellungsland USA(Portland/Oregon) dürfte es etwas günstiger zu erwerben seinIn Deutschland darf man es besitzen, jedoch nicht führen außerhalb der Wohnung bzw.außerhalb des eigenen Grundstückes -auch nicht im Auto, es sei denn -in einem verschlossenen Behältnis (Waffenrecht §42,Einhandmesser)-.

Das Edict macht bei der Klinge einen guten Eindruck, jedoch sitzt die Klinge nicht stabil genug im Gehäuse, so dass Spiel entsteht. Durch das sehr leicht gehäuse wirkte das ganze auch nicht ganz ausbalanciert. Ein Gürtelholster lag ebenfalls nicht bei. Für den Preis halte ich das für unangemessen. Aufgrund dessen ging das Messer zurück und wurde gegen ein Fox Knive mit N690-Klinge getauscht.Positiv zu erwähnen ist, dass der Daumenpin geschraubt ist und so einfach entfernt werden kann. Außerdem ist der 154CM-Stahl nicht die schlechteste Wahl. Mit einem besseren Gehäuse wäre das Messer sehr gut.

Ich habe das Messer jetzt sein 1 Monat im Gebrauch. Hauptsächlich in Wäldern und auf dem Bau. Es ist sehr gut und solide verarbeitet. Es klappert und wackelt nichts. Den Gurtklipp habe ich entfernt da ich ihn nicht benötige. Zum Messer selber:Es ist gut austariert und liegt auch sehr gut in der Hand. Die Klinge ist sehr Dick und robust verarbeitet. Ideal zum Aufhebeln und spalten. Die schärfe der Klinge ist okay. Das ist mehr oder weniger die Standardschärfe die bei fast allen Messern ausgeliefert wird. Das Messer hält die Schärfe allerdings auch nach längerem und intensiverem Gebrach was auf eine gute Qualität des Stahls hinweist.Es ist einfach zu reinigen und behält kaum Gebrauchsspuren. Ab und an ein bisschen ÖL und man hat lange Freude damit.

Beim Auspacken fiel mir schon die erste lose Schraube vom Halteclip entgegen, die zweite Schraube löste sich dann auch gleich.Wenn man genau hinsieht, sitzt das Gewinde tiefer im Griff als die Schrauben lang sind, kann also technisch garnicht greifen und halten.Von der Marke Gerber hätte ich da mehr erwartet, ohne den Clip ist das Messer für meine Zwecke Oitdoor einfach nutzlos.
