I have owned a couple of fancy guppy tanks for most of my life just for the joy of looking at these beauties and, at 61, am on the look out for up-to-date books on this delightful, peaceful, lovely little fish.This book is a jewel! It not only covers all the basics needed for the beginner, or refresher info for the in-between folks, but also provides information on line breeding and inbreeding that I found very interesting and useful for active breeders.It has a very useful section on recognizing the various color classes and tail types being bred today and has photos of some females that are so beautiful, I had to check the anal fins to make sure they were not males!This book also tells you what the most important question you should ask about the breeding background of any guppies you are buying as breeding stock, regardless of how beautiful they are. wow! Good book....I had no idea guppy females have revolved from gray and big to colorful!I think the fish store accidently got a few females in my male only request!Not one of our 6 males look like each other---and this book describes their colorations---ie; where I said leopard spots--they say Snakeskin.....and yes, indeed, it does look more like snakeskin.....Keeping this book close at hand while we watch our small tank of Fancy Guppies!

I love this book. I like the writing style and it has all the information you could possibly need to raise fancy guppies. I don't have guppies yet but I will start a community after Christmas. This book definitely gave me the confidence to say that. I think when I'm a pro at raising guppies there will still be things to learn from this book. This book is money well spent if you are interested in raising fancy guppies or even if you are not it is very interesting. I'm so glad I got it.

I love all the Animal Planet books..they are up to date on the info and im just a beginner..a lot of the older books make no sense to me..I need to be able to relate what products are out there for me to get to be able to have a postive experience with my new hobby...this book is beautiful,very insightful,and up to date info...

A very simple, yet informative book on breeding and keeping guppies. Stan Shubel is a fantastic breeder of show-quality guppies in the United States, having won countless awards through the IFGA circuit. It is a great starting point if you wish to keep show quality guppies.
