Typewriters for Writers Kindle Edition

Terrific book! As an author myself (okay, self published 1 book) I can say I wish I'd read this before I purchased a typewriter for heavy use. It's the little things... Like does it have a number 1? Or how difficult is it to set tabs? These and many other, oh so useful details are covered in this book. That said though, I'd still have bought this book just for the fantastic and detailed photographs of these amazing machines!

If you are thinking about becoming a typewriter enthusiast, or already are one, this is marvelous. It's simple, straightforward, and infused with just the right amount of personality from the author. Also terrific pictures, and the all-important How To Pack One Up to Ship Safely. As a result, I am now the proud owner of a mint 1958 Olympia SM3. (And don't forget to watch the Tom Hanks documentary, California Typewriter.)

Great book. Great photographs. And I came away with a much deeper appreciation for various typewriter brands and models. Perhaps most valuable, I feel more prepared to actually buy a used typewriter, now that I understand which models were built more robustly, which ones were paired with well-protecting cases, etc.I'd recommend this book to anyone who is toying with the idea of buying an old typewriter (or anyone who wants to appreciate the one they already have).

This book is an excellent introduction to using a typewriter as tool (rather than some retro decor item sitting on your credenza). Good descriptions of the best typewriters available for the working writer. Well written and fun; should inspire any creative person to climb into the attic and dust off grandma's typewriter.

Simple and honest, Scott struck a chord in me with this book. If I knew of a typewriter rescue society I would join in a heartbeat just to possibly help save a little piece of our history.If you are a writer, in a big way or a small way, and you see the attraction of being able to write almost anywhere without electricity, big-brother, or the internet, then this is the book for you. It is filled with practical, first hand knowledge of that incredible invention, the typewriter. Even at fifty, sixty, or seventy years old many of them continue to do the job they were made to do. Awesome.

I caught the typewriter bug and I own 16 of them thus far, which I use at my law office and at home. This inexpensive book penned by a connoisseur and writer is heartfelt, informative, and helpful. I gained some practical knowledge, a sense of the historical development of the machines, and a better understanding of the available brands and their advantages and disadvantages.Only wish this work were available in hardcopy, but perhaps it only calls for retyping!

Very helpful and informative. I found this book to be better than "The Typewriter Revolution" and cost much less. The contents are much more practical and useful.

An excellent resource for anyone looking to buy a typewriter for the first time. From where to look, strategies for bidding on Ebay picking the right one for you, this book is a great reference or enjoyable just to flip through. I find myself referring to it, to peruse the numerous typewriter profiles at least 2-3 times a week.

As a newbie to typewriters I found this ebook really interesting and helpful in understanding a bit more about how typewriters work and the different features each model has.There are a great selection of photos of various typewriters with a little bit of information about each one.It’s useful to have so much information condensed into one book which would have taken me hours/days to try and research and find on the internet.I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in typewriters.

This book is amazingly well done! I'm glad I purchased it before making a choice. For every writer wannabe or letter enthusiast looking for a mechanical typewriter as myself, I can't recommend this book enough! If you want to write your novel without distractions or typewrite letters to friends, family or total strangers, this is for you! It will help you choose your partner in wordsmithy crime and chances to make a lone machine yours forever!
