Sleek design, good fit and finish, difficult installation, requires two hands or good dexterity
Purchased to be a towel hook for a bathroom renovation. Never installed (more below).Frankly, it is hard to find recessed/spring-loaded hooks out there. I love the modern/contemporary style. It creates a clean, flush/flat look when the hook is retracted. The hook is small and would work well with a small towel or items that hang by a strap (robe, purse, jacket). The hook is too small for a large towel or more bulky items.Build quality is good, spring feels sturdy, material finish is clean, and it is heavy...does not feel cheap at all.It almost requires two hands to operate, one hand to push the bottom of the hook so that the hook folds outward, and the other hand to hang the item. The hook is about 1.25" long.Didn't install as intended. The short: requires finesse, planning and forethought to install properly. The long:Plan was to install in a plaster/gypsum board (approx 1" thick overall) wall with 2x4 wood studs.I knew this might be difficult, as there is a large amount of material on the back of the device (1/2" deep and 1/2" wide, and almost full height of the disc), which would need be recessed into the face of the wall, either by cutting or routing a slot into the wall. The face of the disc does not have a lot of lip/coverage, so the slot can't be oversized by much. The slot must be wide, high, and deep enough for the back assembly to slide into AND still square it up...and then fasten a screw into a wall/stud behind. Also, you can't use a drywall recessed anchor, because by cutting/routing out the wallboard, you are removing the anchoring material. You must affix directly to a backup stud or blocking material. There is not a lot of room for error.
