I had never made soap before purchasing this book and thank goodness the batch sizes are small! Some recipes made 5 or 6 individual bars of soap which is plenty of soap if the batch is successful, and not such a big loss if the batch should fail.The book describes the history of soap making, tools of the trade, it describes the oils most frequently used for soap making and it includes, of course, the recipes - of which there are several. There is a notation about whether the recipe is suitable for hot or cold process, but until you make the soap, you will never know how much any of the recipes yield.I love this book for its simplicity, the small batches are ideal and the materials for soap making are so easy to get. My favorite is the oatmeal & honey soap. I've made it several times following the recipe and will continue to do so until I get the soap exactly the way I want it - one small batch at a time.

Thought that cold press soap was going to be hard to do. I didn't think I would want to try. After reading & studying this book I'm positive I will have enough confidence to try now. Was shocked at how easy the author wrote this book, and I didn't feel I needed to read another book to understand what was written, it's very clear on everything. Was left with No questions to ask or left wondering what was meant. Seriously thinking about a purchase with this one!!

Not a lot in it, Has some very nice recipes but also has ingredients that aren't easy to get. Overall a better book for someone who has done soaps before and looking to expand recipes or add to their collection.

So I have had an interest in making soaps for my son due to his eczema break outs and I’m finally acting on it. I have had questions about the initial processes, how to do it, and what ingredients are absolutely necessary. This book has given me the basics answering all my questions great first read!

I’ve wrote a bunch of these recipes down. They are great for someone who just wants to try making some cold process soap with essential oils and doesn’t want to bother with figuring out the amounts of each ingredient. I wish there were photos of the finished soap though. Also, you’ll probably need another in depth book or look online to expand on this subject as it just tells you the basics, process, and just a bunch of recipes.

This book was very helpful for the beginner. A list of what is needed and the recipes are great.

This book is helpful but you’ll find yourself reading the same thing you just read in earlier pages, just reworded. It was a little rough to get through because of that.As far as recipes go it’s a handy little book but I wouldn’t purchase it if you’re looking for something thorough as far as beginner soap making.
