Fitness is freedom
If you're getting along in years and think that it's ordained that you will decline, lose vitality, and become frail - READ THIS BOOK!! I did, at my cardiologist's suggestion. Changed my life - and my wife's. We're early 60s and getting strong and fit. We're exercising, hiking, doing regular stretching - and loving it. Feel better than we have in a very long time. Everything is easier. Energy is increased. Mental function is better. Fitness is critical as we age. Fitness is freedom. Fitness is dignity. Fitness is fun. We expect to be strong and active at least into our 80s. Unless we get hit by a truck.

and wanting a program that would integrate the latest understandings of fitness this book if PERFECT. And when you go to do these exercises
How could I begin to actually DO the ideas in Chris and Henry's inspiring book, Younger Next Year? Being new to the world of exercise and fitness myself, and wanting a program that would integrate the latest understandings of fitness this book if PERFECT. And when you go to do these exercises... before you know them all, download the two consolidated cheat sheets they offer at the Workman site: Warm ups and 25 sacred exercises are available at no cost at Workman.com. I reduced them to 66% on the copier so I don't have so many pages. Much easier than trying to hold the whole book open and carry it around with me.

A Lot of Leftovers Here
I'm a huge fan of Younger Next Year. I've been doing the basic program for six years and it has really changed me for the better. Be warned that this book is mainly repackaged leftovers. If you have read the original, most of the first part will be review. The main message of the exercise program is good, but the "sacred 25" are apparently covered in Thinner Next Year (which I have not read). I also think the exercises seem to be a bit overwhelming. I doubt you could do the "warm ups" in less than 30 minutes, and the whole point of YNY is 45 minutes to 60 minutes of exercise six days a week. The book recommends to mix and match the exercises, and has a few suggested programs. Overall, however, I expected more guidance and a more manageable program. It almost seems like the purpose of the book is to lead to the purchase of the exercise DVD. Not a big deal because the book is cheap. So, overall, good effort. But, I would really have preferred an updated new edition of YNY that includes TNY and a more structured chapter on the exercises. Also, more involvement by Harry. Harry is featured a little here, but it seems largely repackaged.

Inspirational
Good Book. Good inspiration. I am now working out, not all these exercises, for an hour a day six days a week.

Chris Crowley is the Rock when encouraging exercise through aging ...
Chris Crowley is the Rock when encouraging exercise through aging. Only thing needed is acknowledging that sometimes it hurts to move. I have purchased all his books and am a fan and current avid exerciser, including teaching Zumba GoldĀ® dance fitness and EssentricsĀ® Aging Backwards stretch and strengthen classes.

Excellent.
This is incredibly helpful to us seniors.... It makes so much sense. It is practical. It is do-able! I am excited to do this and increase my strength, flexibility and health. After a MVA I am very limited in my flexibility and my knees are so weak. I fall easily..... This can help.

Not Great!
I have the main Younger Next Year book and thought this would be great to use along with it but it was basic repetitive information. Returned!

This is a great addition. It describes the exercises and categorizes them ...
I have purchased other books in this series and have learned so much from it. This is a great addition. It describes the exercises and categorizes them by warm up, core, arms and legs, but it is not a prescriptive workout that tells you to do this first then this second. You have to choose which ones you want to do, it just gives you a roadmap to follow and explains why you need to follow it. I have purchased copies for family members too.

Too much repetition in this series
I was inspired by Younger Next Year and bought it and Thinner This Year. What I find annoying about this one in the series is the amount of repetition between the books. That's fine for the science, it isn't going to change (much) from book to book, but the least the author could have done is find new anecdotes instead of repeating the same case studies. We've heard about John who walked in the sand already. If you have hundreds of examples, the least you could have done is include some new ones.

A Positive Approach
Encouraging and amusing in approach. You just need to get off the couch and do someting, not just read the book!! I like the web link to download the exercises. That is helpful. If you've done lots of exercising over the years, there may not be much that is new.

A delightful read about health and fitness
This little book will be your lifelong companion if you are serious about health and fitness. There is a great craze among people about exercise, but often people do mistakes in doing exercises and that can lead to serious injuries. If you are a beginner or someone who is thinking to making exercise an integral part of life then this book is your go to guide. Although the book is little but it is concise and correctly described about importance of exercise, how to do them properly, how strength training and aerobic exercise both are essential for a great health. Keep this little book with you and it will be useful for rest of your life.

Excellent Read and Information
I was already a believer in the concepts discussed in this book but I really liked the way it was outlined here. I was also impressed with the passion and detail in which it was all explained.
