This blu-ray from Lang Lang ‘Live at the Lincoln Centre’ presents the pianist’s homage to the ‘City that Never Sleeps’. Guests artists include Rufus Wainwright, Andra Day, Regina Spektor, Suzanne Vegna, Kurt Elling and Lindsey Stirling plus others. Live concert repertoire closely mirrors album, but there are several new guest artists. The concert is interspersed with introductory statements from Lang Lang and the guest artists. The 80-minute programme also includes a stunning solo piano medley shot on the banks of the Hudson River with an arrangement of additional songs inspired by New York, including Billy Joel’s ‘Angry Young Man’, the jazz standard “Take the A-Train”, Joe Jackson’s 1980s hit – “Steppin Out” and the perennial favourite “New York New York”, made legendary by Frank Sinatra.

Lang Lang & Friends Hit A Home Run !!
I've only heard this BD once on my Big System, but it certainly knocked my Socks off !! About 55 Residents of Oak Bay Lodge were also blown away by the powerful mix of Soft Jazz, Broadway Show Tunes and especially Don Henley's "New York Minute" sung by Kurt Elling which I'd never heard before: This piece is done brilliantly by the small Orchestra, close-miked to perfection by Sony, and with Lang Lang on the Steinway playing counter-melodies. Whoever did the arrangements certainly earned his pay cheque!Sorry to say there are two Songs which are "A Bit Off", despite other Reviewers raving about them: The Medley of "Dirty Boulevard" and "Somewhere" is the musical equivalent of the "The Scream", and I'm sure if you played it loud enough it would empty the room. The other one is sung by a lady who is dressed like "Rosie The Riveter", of WWII fame, and whose voice sounds very gravelly. I'm sure Alicia Keyes, who co-wrote it, does a much better job.Lang Lang (Correctly Pronounced "Long Long" on this BD) does an excellent job of the 14 Minute Gershwin "Rhapsody in Blue" - best version I have ever heard, but that is just my opinion. "De Gustibus Non Disputandum Est"This is just a First Impressions Review, and will be fleshed out in the next couple weeks...p.s. "Google" Kurt Elling who sings "New York Minute" - what a Talented & Soulful Singer, and what an interesting Life he has led !!p.p.s. The Audio (Linear PCM Stereo) & Video are Absolutely Crystal Clear - Sony must have put their best People & Equipment on this recording! I also have to give some credit to my Bryston 20amp Isolation Transformer with Automatic Voltage Regulation for making good old 1080p look so amazing!
