Worth reading
This book has lovable characters, and the plot takes many twists and turns. The heroines are brave and spunky, and the heroes are humble men of integrity.Unfortunately, the story also has many flaws, unanswered questions, and unexplained occurrences (beyond what's normal in stories about alternate worlds). More character development would also be nice. It's worth reading, although there were definitely parts that made me roll my eyes because they were so far-fetched and a bit too convenient. This is nowhere near as good as The Seer and the Sword, which was excellent.Note that this book is fantasy, and as such contains many supernatural elements.Due to mature themes, I don't recommend this book for young readers.

Slow paced
I couldn’t get into it. And the book fell apart upon receiving it. Pages were lost and there was NO WAY I could finish reading it! I would love a replacement to at least give it a fair chance but I couldn’t find another copy in stock! Oh well.

Not That Great
I remember reading the first novel in this series when I was thirteen and deciding it was my new favorite book and the best piece of literature ever written.Perhaps that's why thirteen year olds shouldn't be asked to review books. Seven years later and I finally pick up the sequel, because it had held my interest enough to warrant a follow up. I don't like to use the term "god mod" or "mary sue" much in fantasy work, since it's very hard to draw the line between what is and what is not acceptable in a fantasy environment. However, every few chapters I'd be forced to set the book down and just shake my head at the sheer amount of deus ex machina."Oh, hey- I have super cool long lost warrior powers that no one else has gained in centuries.""Oh, hey- me too! Rad."Aside from the corniness, the writing was bland at best. I can excuse that though, as I'm assuming the novel is aimed at a younger age class than my own.Basically, if you're thirteen years old, give it a try- you might enjoy it. Otherwise don't bother.

The Healer's Keep
I loved this book! It is a companion to The Seer and The Sword and the storyline is just as great as the first book. Victoria continues to develop her characters really well also. Highly recommend this to all readers who like fantasy, young adult and grown-ups alike.

Great book, low stars because the book I received was damaged.
I LOVE all the books that Victoria Hanley has written. Keeps you engaged the entire time and the story is amazing! I started reading The Seer and the Sword when I was 13 and was hooked. I do hope she writes more follow up companion books to accompany this one and The Light of the Oracle. It's fun seeing how the stories fit together and constantly having a strong female lead. The only reason for the low stars it that the book I received was damaged. It was supposed to be in 'Like New' / 'Very Good' condition. Not so, the book arrived to me with rips and tears in the cover and throughout, it also had a horrible stench and pen markings in the book. Very disappointed in the seller.

Pulls You In
I normally don't really care for books written about the children of characters from the previous book, but this time it is very well done. While this book is sold as a young adult read it is still enjoyable to an older readership who simply don't want to take the time to read a longer book.

Hope for our young people
I just want to express my gratitude to Victoria Hanley for taking the effort to write the books she has written and, I hope, will continue to write. Despite the reports that all kids today do is watch TV or play video games for entertainment, I know that is not true 100%. Many young adults PREFER to read! And that is a good thing when there are authors for young adults like Ms. Hanley offering such books as this, The Healer's Keep. It is an EXCELLENT work. The story moves and flows brilliantly. Her main characters are interesting and come to life in the mind, and they capture the heart. This tale is adventuresome to put it mildly. But more importantly, the kids she tells of in The Healer's Keep, display qualities of good character. Modeling bravery, intelligence, imagination, loyalty, true friendship and others to inspire our great young people. Parents, if your child has an interest in reading, this book and Ms. Hanley's first book, The Seer And The Sword, are a must! Great reading for boys and girls! If you want your child to grow up with an interest in reading, I would recommend you put these books in their hands and just see what happens. I bet I could tell you what that outcome will be. Ms. Hanley brings a freshness to stories for young adult readers that inspires them and challenges them to learn about themselves through the lives of her characters. It almost seems like her books become interactive with kids, and once they begin the first page they and the characters become best friends and compadres, living the adventure together. Excellent work! 5 stars and 5 thumbs up from this parent (of an avid young adult reader) to Ms. Hanley! BTW, so that no one thinks I am writing this review for my daughter, she has expressed her own feelings here about this book already. It has been partly her enthusiasm for both of Ms.Hanley's books that I read them too. Although, after reading The Seer And The Sword, I have to say, I was already pretty excited about reading this new book. The Healer's Keep has more than lived up to both our expectations!
