Q: What type of plug do these use? The only outlet on my Kindle is charging outlet, rectangular shaped.

Don't know supposed to be for kindle fire..didn't come close to fitting

Q: How is the the volume adjusted? My earbuds came without diagram or instructions, so I'm not clear on how to adjust the volume.

You have to adjust the source you have the earplugs plugged into. A mobile phone, a speaker, etc. volume cannot be adjusted on the actual buds like iPhone ear plugs.

Round earphone plug. My Kindle has an outlet for them about an inch from the rectangular charging port. The earphones work very well.

I didn't find them comfortable for my ears, but my husband enjoys them very much. They should work on your kindle.
